When the first article came out speculating about Heaven or Ghosts and a couple other things, I was intrigued and had couple theories of my own. I too thought maybe the ship purgatory, but after watching the show, I kind of just want it to be what it looks like on the surface. Just a guy who wanted to make a change in his life and is now the doctor on a cruise ship. I don't need a show that has twists or shocking story lines all the time. I enjoy something that can be light and fun and if that is what Doctor Odyssey is about then I'm perfectly happy.
However, if that is not the case then here are a few thoughts of my own. In this lates article it mentions that maybe Max is still sick and it's back in 2020 (one of their theories based on the Justin Bieber song). My thought on that theory is that it would kind of be a rip off of the same story line that they did in Grey's Anatomy when Meredith had Covid and they brought back all those previous cast members to appear in her fever dream. I'd like to think that Ryan Murphy would have a more original thought than to use one that was so recently used on another show which is also an ABC show. If I'm wrong and Max is in a coma and this is all in his mind then I have a slightly different theory on who he is in the real world. I wonder if he's a doctor at all and while he's in his coma, he is constantly hearing all the medical jargon around him, so in his mind he is a doctor. This could explain why he made that diagnosis incorrectly about the patient who ate all that shrimp, that could be a clue. The bottom line is I'm still going to watch regardless. I like the concept of a new cruise theme every week with new medical issues every week and I look forward to seeing the dynamic of the team as they navigate their relationships going forward. Ratings: 9-1-1 Returns Bigger, Doctor Odyssey Gives ABC a 5-Year High, TNF Makes History https://tvline.com/ratings/doctor-od...on-1235340262/ I was hoping for a better opening than that based on the record breaking viewers for the Trailer. However, those numbers are likely only based on US viewership and the rest of the world (except Canada) won't get to see it until sometime in October. Quote:

I was avoiding spoilers since I hadn’t watched.
But I’ve watched now. I really enjoyed the premier. I’m fine with a light fun show too. But I won’t be upset if there’s some big twist. Definitely some interesting theories. And OMG heart palpitations. Josh is just drop dead fine in this. I’ll be re-watching too __________________

If feel like I'm going to be watching a couple more times before next week's episode airs. I've already watched it five times and I'm trying really hard not to watch it again today. I can't seem to get enough. __________________

Well, I gave in and watched the first episode. I only watched for Josh as this not my kind of show, so that does colour my enjoyment. It was OK. I do feel it was very surface level but I also understand they only have 40mins an episode, so there is only so much we can get from the Pilot about the characters. Aside from Josh, who of course has charisma and charm to spare - I think Don Johnson just commands the screen with his presence that even though he was not in the episode very much, I instantly liked the Captain and I want to know more about him. I'm not sure yet if I'll keep watching, even for Josh. I do hope this show does well for Josh and I am enjoying the resurgence of Josh love on social media.

I’m loving that too and I hope so as well.
I likely wouldn’t have checked out the show if not for Josh. Thankfully I liked the premier but I’d keep watching regardless probably for him. lol I’m curious to find out more about his character and the others. __________________

Based on what I've seen in E1, Avery is going to be like a mother hen (in a good way). I liked her character. Tristen gives us a little comic relief and of course Josh commands every scene, but the bias. I like that Don is the Captain and look forward to seeing all of the character development.
I feel like there is a deeper side to Avery that we may not find out for a while yet. I'm thinking it might be time to start a Thread for Dr. Max Bankman I really think we have the makings of a great cast along with great chemistry __________________

All the fans want to ship Josh and it doesn't matter who with
Some reviews are not too positive. I tend to disagree, but I like a light and fun story line. __________________

‘Doctor Odyssey’ Off To Strong Start For ABC As Premiere Reels In Nearly 14M Viewers
https://deadline.com/2024/10/doctor-...bc-1236106860/ Ryan Murphy‘s latest procedural set sail on ABC last week and, so far, the premiere episode has tallied 13.6M cross-platform viewers in its first week, Disney says. That’s an impressive 230% increase over the episode’s live + same-day audience of 4.13M. This is a monster start for Doctor Odyssey. While most broadcast series grow their audiences quite significantly in the week after they air, once episodes become available on streaming, it is fairly rare for an episode to average 10M viewers in that time frame — let alone blow right past it. Within three days of viewing, the cruise ship drama had already delivered 7.59M viewers, making it ABC’s best drama premiere in four years, according to Disney. And after its first full day on Hulu, it was No. 1 on the streamer’s Top 15 Today list, and it has remained there since. **************************************************************** What This Viewership Record Means For Doctor Odyssey The Show May Have A Bright Future Ahead Of It This record-breaking debut for the new Ryan Murphy program would seem to indicate that the Doctor Odyssey cast may have their next few years set for them, as the show could have legs as the next big medical drama for ABC. It is built for longevity, as its cruise ship setting allows for a small group of rotating cast members to form its center as guest stars cycle in and out around the core medical team for various arcs. __________________
