I've always thought I should go back to his beginnings and watch Stand By Me or The Might Ducks

I was able to see the entire article, too.
I always knew I loved Emilio Estevez. Knowing he played an important part in JJ's growth as a professional actor just makes me appreciate him more. __________________

Side note on Bobby:
Just think what would have happened if RFK had not been assassinated and died on June 6, 1968. In all probability, Nixon would have been defeated by another Kennedy in the 1968 presidential election. Most likely RFK would have been re-elected in 1972. Most likely no Kent State and definitely no Watergate. We would have pulled out of Vietnam years earlier and most likely the ERA would have passed. Civil rights would have advanced much farther. No vice president Spiro T. Agnew resignation. No Gerald Ford vice-presidency. No Gerald Ford presidency. No Nelson Rockefeller vice-presidency. Only question might have been whether RFK would have visited China. That's a timeline for another alternate universe. Last edited by Ironhorse25; 07-27-2022 at 09:14 AM |

True, if elected RFK probably would have been able to push through a lot of his policies since he would have enjoyed a majority Democratic Congress as well. However, at the time of his assassination, RFK was by no means a shoe-in for the Democratic nomination. He was running against Hubert Humphrey and Eugene McCarthy in the primaries and Humphrey had a solid lead. So even had he not been shot, it might have made no difference.

I believe that RFK would have caught up to Humphrey by the time of the DNC. Too much LBJ baggage would have caught up with him. If Robert Kennedy had lived, it also would have quelled the unrest at the convention. However, you have a point.

I’ve always seriously wondered how no JFK assassination would effect us

For one thing, I don't think JFK would be revered quite the way he is. Assassination made him a martyr. I also don't think we would have had the advances in civil rights or the space program that we got during the Johnson administration. JFK would have pushed for them, certainly, but Johnson was able to use the leverage of JFK's death to basically guilt Congress into pushing many of JFK's policies though.

That's a very interesting analysis. I completely disagree, but you make an intriguing synopsis.
You don't think we would have landed a man on the moon earlier than 1969? Do you think JFK would have been re-elected in 1964? Do you believe he would have pulled out of Vietnam? What about the Civil Rights Act? The list can go on and on. Last edited by Ironhorse25; 07-27-2022 at 06:56 PM |
