What happened to him? Does anybody else think that during the course of season 1, they did a complete change to what we saw in the pilot?

I'm not sure. Or maybe Peter lost some of his edge, because he became more accepting of Walter.

The change I saw was gradual, as far as I can remember. He was a very angry man in the pilot and he remained like that until the 4th episode at least. I think it was in The Arrival, where his anger at Walter and his impatience with him was the most evident. It's only after he decided he would stay, that he began to soften up gradually.

If his "edge" is about his hatred of Walter, then I'm glad he lost it. I mean, I understand why he was so angry, but I admit I lost my patience with him once or twice later in S1, when he still would rag on Walter occasionally. There is a point, where you have to decide if you want to live in hell or make the most of a situation, so I'm happy Peter decided to work on building a relationship with Walter and embraced his responsibilities towards him.

Cool answer, Blue Universe. Yes, I was glad about his anger towards Walter getting less as the season progressed as well. I suppose "the edge" that I was referring to was his shady past. The exgirlfriend that showed up, etc. That side of him, that was hinted in the pilot. It started to vanished by the middle of the season and was gone by the end.
