red alternate universe title sequence | 1

THE OTHER SIDE: There's more than one of everything. The alternate universe was introduced to us during the season one finale. We learned that while this universe is similar to ours, it has many differences as well. Some people are alive in that universe that aren't alive in ours (Charlie), or even the other way around - people are dead there that alive here (Bell). There are no trees in this universe and they are more technologically advanced than we are. Walter took Peter from the other side when his Peter here died, and cause a motion that still has effects today. And we know that if these two worlds ever collide, only one will stand.

Hey guys! We thought it would be a cool idea to have a thread where we can talk about everything relating to the alternate universe! So discuss away! And if you guys have any ideas of what to add to the OP (I'm gonna to add alternate Astrid/Broyles, etc. later) just let me know! Hope you guys like the thread!

Erica_85 05-25-2010 08:15 AM

Ooh, I like this! I think the color red definitely represents the other side. I can't wait to learn more about it. Accelerated healing techniques?

ladyarianrod 05-25-2010 03:45 PM

Interesting thread. I never knew that there were no trees in the other universe! Fascinating.

Addison Montgomery 05-25-2010 05:45 PM

Awesome! Thanks for starting it, Shan! I love the art in the OP. :thud:

Yep! I think Newton had mentioned it in an episode, but when you watch Over There Pt. 2, Bell and Walter are driving and they zoom out and you see there's no trees.

galesgirl645 05-29-2010 09:48 PM

It seems like people from the other side are really aggressive. Alt!Olivia almost killed our olivia while they were fighting.

killed the lights 05-30-2010 09:07 AM

^Yeah they definitely have a different way of viewing life than we do. I'm excited to see more of the other side next season though!

Erica_85 06-09-2010 11:28 AM

If there's no Andrew Jackson on the other side, does that mean there's no Jacksonville? No cortexiphan trials? Something to think about. I'm pretty sure AltOlivia didn't have the childhood our Olivia did.

killed the lights 06-14-2010 11:44 AM

Jacksonville was named after Andrew Jackson? Interesting ...

I love the whole AU topic, it's quite intriguing and interesting. It adds something different to the show.

I think it will be so interesting to see how the people of the AU will see the other universe and vice versa; things won’t be black and white and divided between good guys/bad guys.

killed the lights 06-17-2010 09:22 AM

Jasika did an interview when she said that the first few episodes of season 3 were going to take place on the other side, or in between universes, and that gets me excited! I can't wait to learn more about the other side, and see what they are going to do to Olivia. Or see what Alt!Olivia is going to do on this side.

Exactly. We still don't know that much. I can't wait to see more from the other side.

Bumping this thread since the premiere is TOMORROWWWW! (well officially tomorrow for me, it's 2am where I am LOL). :woot: And since the premiere takes place in the alternate universe, I thought we should bring this thread back!

Sofia posted these pics in the pic thread, but I'm gonna bring it over here. There's some cool signs and such from the AU in some of the pics. Like 7-1-1 and antarera airships! I can't wait to see what other differences we can spot between universes in the premiere!

After the episode airs, we can discuss other signs from the alternate universe.

killed the lights 09-22-2010 09:03 AM

^Yep! I can't wait to see what other things are over there. TOMORROW! :woot:

jateryara 09-22-2010 09:12 AM

Just because one person fights with olivia doesn't mean all people over there are aggressive. BTW, it was Olivia who held a gun to AltOlivia to begin with. Olivia didn't have to do that.

Five reasons we love Fringe’s alternate universe

Season three of Fringe returns in just over a week – Eric Stoltz in Back To The Future, anyone?
With Fringe’s third season beginning on 23 September in the United States, we felt compelled to remind you why the series’ alternate universe – which will be featured bi-weekly in the first half of the season – is such an interesting contrast to our own:

1. I’m seeing double!

There’s something extremely fun about the fact that several of the characters have doubles, most notably B-Olivia and Walternate, while Charlie lingers on in the alternative universe. Mainly, though, I just enjoyed this daft – but, undeniably cool – showdown between our Olivia Dunham and her sassier, fringe-bearing alternate:

2. The historical differences

JFK is still alive? Nixon’s head is on coins? The White House was destroyed, but the World Trade Center still stands? Every time a single one of these details was mentioned in the latter half of Fringe’s second season, I couldn’t help but get a little more invested in the story. Hopefully, the producers will have more of these ideas in store for us when the third season begins.

3. Movie titles

Don’t know about the rest of you, but I kind of want to see Superman Vs Batman and Indiana Jones And The Hex Of The Hydra, both of which are currently in theatres in the Fringe universe. This altogether neat touch is exactly why Fringe’s alternate universe is so cool – it works on multiple levels, from characterisation to the pop culture references.

4. The New York skyline

Zeppelins over New York in 2010? Love it. Fringe’s art direction went crazy in the second season, painting a picture of what an alternate universe should look like – close-to-home, but creatively inspired. I can’t wait to get a further glance at it over the course of the third year.

5. Fringe division is an army

Vans? They have Fringe vans? Broyles has a control room? Bloody hell! Fringe seems to have far more backing from the government on the other side, due to the fact that the entire world is falling apart over there (a result of Walter Bishop’s amoral dabbling with the universe). As a result, the division probably has its own stationery, and they’re obviously well known by the public.

Ooh love this thread. I'm so slow at picking up the subtle things in episodes, unless I watch them over and over, which I have been, while waiting for S3. Looking forward to discussing the alternative characters and worlds very soon! I'm sure there's going to be a lot of divided opinions in a few weeks time.

killed the lights 09-22-2010 09:38 PM

Thanks for bringing that over, Sofia! Veryyyy interesting! I can't wait to see more stuff in the premiere TOMORROW. (Can you guys believe it's tomorrow, AHHHH!)

I wish I didn't have to wait to download the episode to watch it  I think I've never been so excited for a premiere. Hell, not only for the premiere, the entire season!

jateryara 09-23-2010 08:21 AM

I think i love the alt!universe more than this world. :rotfl:

killed the lights 09-23-2010 07:23 PM

I liked seeing more of the other side! All the signs for the advanced technology they have like the daily flights to the moon, and HOW COOL that gym was Nick and Charlie were in?! Also the zeppelin in the sky and the Park named after Martin Luther King. I love spotting all those differences!
