Oh, when you said resign I thought you meant they wanted him to bow out when he heard they were killing Gillian off lol. Even with that, it still sounds like they completely sacrificed her SMH.

kayrey 10-02-2021 10:59 PM

God I really hope that's not true. Throwing a costar under the bus like that is awful and is the type of thing that would make me actively dislike a actor. And then it being someone who he worked extremely closely with, i.e. Esta, is even worse. I guess it's all one of those things where we'll never really know the full story but the fact you say he specifically mentioned Leo as taking screentime is pretty shady especially since Cameron has said he's very good friends with Josh Duhamel. The whole thing already makes me view him differently.

They were break down and script writers through 1998 and the first part of 1999, Liz P being a co-HW for half a second in 1999 though fired cause of disagreements with JP and Agnes. This might be a minority opinion, but I think Broderick was one most invested in Gillian as an individual character (in terms of developing her family, backstory, connections etc), after all she created her, or maybe I just found her to be a better writer.

I was a kid at the time so I didn't follow the bts stuff at all so thank you for the rundown. I've been watching the 1997 pre-Ryan Gillian scenes that were recently uploaded on youtube and as someone who is basically watching them for what feels like the first time I think this is definitely true. It seemed like there were some interesting plot points they were setting up there. The big one being her dad. Just a big missed opportunity that we never met him. I also thought that Gillian had a bit more grit. That's not to say the later iteration had none because she definitely did I just thought it was more prominent in the beginning. From what I can tell Lorraine Broderick had one of the more critically acclaimed runs with both fans and critics, any reason why she was never brought back until near the end?

I stopped watching before all that stuff with Edmund and I'm glad I did because that and a lot of the other stuff that came after sounds absolutely awful.

The way I read it, it sounded like a producers ploy to get him to stay since he was complaining about airtime and considering leaving, and not Cameron's idea to get rid of her. He didn't mention Leo specifically, I added that for timeline reference, but he said specifically when Ryan and Hayley ended he never got the same airtime again during his first run.

Actually, they approached Lorraine Broderick first in 2003 before McTavish but she turned them down at the time. I know they purposely kept Nixon out of the fold for years. I remember Lucci talking about it.

Ah ok, I took it to mean it was something they knew he'd be into and could very well entice him into staying. My bad. I wonder if things would have been different if Esta and Cameron deciding they wanted to leave coincided.

Makes you wonder what would have happened to the show in general had she decided to come back back then, especially since that was when show really started to fall off. But maybe it would have made much of a difference with Frons there anyway.

I saw this on CM's instagram story today

Cute. :in_love: Nice to be getting all these little tastes of Gillian and Ryan from Cameron and Esta after all these years. I feel lucky to have come back to the fandom again this year.

This is insane. There's another Esta interview on a podcast tonight! Here's the link:

She got a new publicist, so now she's doing all these interviews!

Butterfly85 10-07-2021 01:14 PM

I'm glad she is getting back out in the public more, hopefully all this gets her some new TV roles or something.

Thanks. I just listened to it. They asked her about a moment she liked that stood out with Ryan and Gillian, and she said she liked the scene where Ryan got hypothermia and had to take off her clothes and warm Ryan up. She said it was actually really cold on set the day they filmed it, so she and Cameron were actually cold.

BaileyQ 10-07-2021 07:15 PM

I listened too. I thought it was great. I never knew that she auditioned for the role of Ali, but they liked her so much, they created the role of Gillian for her.

She sounds very interested in being on GH with Cameron. When they asked her if another soap gave her a part, she paused and then said yes, but she wasn't very enthusiastic about it. I think it's because she would feel more comfortable acting opposite Cameron. Sadly, I think it's a long shot. I've said this before: She looks a lot like Kelly Monaco. IDK if they would bring on an actress who looks so similar to her. Also, they're totally bringing Rebecca Buding back as Hayden. They keep talking about her character, so it's obvious. I can't see them having Cameron, Rebecca, and Esta on GH. It feels too AMC heavy :(

One good thing that came out of this interview is I think the hosts convinced her to be more active on social media!

tslpsh 10-07-2021 08:48 PM

Yes, that's the first time I heard that too, about Allie. I do remember her saying she had auditioned for another role, but she didn't say what it was. Cameron also was a different character. They talked about that a bit in the podcast they did together. I wonder why they changed it? The Adam connection could've been interesting, anyway.

I do remember reading Rebecca Budig originally auditioned for the role of Kelsey, IIRC years before getting Greenlee.

I've noticed quite a few South African projects on Netflix, maybe her agent can get her an audition for one of those. Though I am not sure she wants to film from there and prefers to be in LA. I remember an old interview with her where she said her car would be vandalized a lot over there and how she wanted to try and move her family to the US too. Though she said she commutes back and forth now so maybe its better.

Butterfly85 10-07-2021 09:14 PM

I never knew she auditioned for Ali. Glad she didn't get it though cause I don't think I really liked Ali and her character was a dud from what I remember. I didn't know RB auditioned for Kelsey either, but I hated Kelsey and Greenlee so they would of been one in the same anyway.

BaileyQ 10-08-2021 10:33 AM

Agreed, Ali was a dud. I dont even think her character was on for more than a year, and I always thought Esta looked a little like Michael Nadar, so i like that they played cousins and she was part of the Wildwind Family. It gave her roots in the shows history. Ali had no roots.

I'm happy to see her in any projects, but ideally id love her to go to GH with Cameron, but im not getting my hopes up. I just wish we were getting a "Ryan & Gillian" reunion on GH. Instead we're getting a "Ryan & Greenlee" one when they weren't even a popular pairing.

tslpsh 10-09-2021 01:19 PM

Yeah, Allie was pretty boring. Gillian was a much more interesting character that they developed from scratch for her, and I loved that she was part of the Marrick clan. I wonder if she ever met Helga lol, or Angelique.

kayrey 10-10-2021 12:04 AM

:yay: Happy we're getting so much Esta lately. It's late here so I'll have to give it a listen later. A small part if me wishes this happened last year with all the reunions that were going on but who knows if that's something she would have even wanted considering she was basically off the grid for years.

I was just watching the Gillian scenes that included Ali and I still had to double check who that was so yeah, at least for me there wasn't much impact there.

Thank you for the gifs btw. Please keep 'em coming. :flowers:
