Lily/Ted and Alyson/Josh Appreciation Thread #1 - {A Shoulder to Rest On; A Friend to Confide in}

Introductions and Information

I'm not delusional enough to believe these two will ever be more than friends on the television screen. But whether it was the shoulder she rested on in “Okay Awesome” or when she secretly confided in Ted about her dreams and fears in “Milk”, there was a time where one couldn't help but wonder could she be the one? Were we being primed for the shocking red herring that's Marshall and Robin respectively?

Then came season two with their deliciously angst-ridden interaction in "How Lily Stole Christmas".

Of course, with Lily and Marshall back together, and subsequently married, and everything we do know about the future a Lily and Ted relationship is impossible, though not improbable to image, if we think of a world or time sans Marshall.

Regardless of fantasy, these two characters have wonderful, and, imo, underrated, chemistry as dear, long-time friends. Let us celebrate and appreciate the awesomeness that is Lily and Ted.

No I haven't lost my mind. =; ) Here's further explanation on why I started this thread.

I've only thought of then as a realized relationship in season one, when it appeared, even in the slightest context, things could go in that direction. Of course now we know it never will, but I can't help but imagine if Marshall wasn't around, if he tragically died. The possibilities are endless.

And regardless I love there friendship. "How Lily Stole Christmas" is one of my favorite episodes, because like Ted said, she "never apologized to me". Most people tend to think in three, as in Marshall/Lily/Ted, but I believe we've seen enough to know that Lily and Ted have an exclusive friendship too.

So come on by and post away. I'd love to see you here. Seriously, post and post often. I think we can make this thread active and fun. If anyone has graphics and, or, fan fiction, feel free to post.

BTW, this is the only time I will double post. I didn't want to clutter up the opening thread post.

I can't believe there wasn't a thread for Lily & Ted. Thank you for starting it.

I have always loved Lily & Teds friendship, but after seeing "How Lily Stole Christmas" it showed just how close they really are. Ted being upset that Lily never apoligized to him was such a sweet scene. They have a very strong friendship and I love the scenes they have together that show that.

Add me please!

I definitely can't imagine anything other than friendship between these 2 but they're awesome friends, indeed

Well I think season one is the only where one could of thought that just maybe she was the one. I was looking for the least little sign as some conspiracy theory as to who the wife was. And that would of been one hell of a twist. But obviously now knowing what's happened since season one and the way Ted reacted to Barney sleeping with Robin, the show would never go there. And if they did, it would wreck the characters and the show.

I still absolutely adore their friendship though and sometimes see chemistry that has me think what if. But that what if only implies if things happened differently earlier on or if something happen to Marshall.

Hmm, I'm not sure. There's only one scene in S1 that inspired any conspiracy theories aka the one you have in the OP from Okay, Awesome and Josh mentioned it in commentary in a "OMG people actually looked for conspiracy there" kind of a way. Plus once again, I don't think he'd be calling her Aunt Lily to his kids if she was the mother.

I honestly can't imagine them together in any other way than friends, even if something would happen to Marshall.

lasha4god - You never disappoint me. Thanks for the thread. I don't think you're crazy. I had the same thoughts in the beginning that things might go that way between them. Obviously with all we've seen now we know it won't. But, in the beginning I was thinking it was an interesting possibility.

I guess this can be a pairing I add to my alternate universe catalog. I do love Lily/Marshall.

Add me please.

I love these two. They've had some great moments and I always love seeing that she's not just Marshall's girlfriend to him............that he has developed a relationship with her and that they are close.

Good point, and I was thinking about that too. Obviously he did call her aunt Lily which voids anyone's conspiracy theories including mine. It hadn't came to my mind at the time I watched it though. And I admit, I liked them in theory and idea.

That sums it up for me. And it's good too know I'm not crazy either. LOL.

I don't remember in which episode he called her aunt, but I think it was extremely early on the show. Then again some people think Robin is the mother even though he's been calling her aunt for the past 3 seasons so apparently it doesn't mean anything

I gotta say that I admit and agree that one of coolest thing about their friendship is that it defined itself beyond the simple "bff's gf" which is how some shows tend to write such relationships. It's a nice change

I agree, I love that we can see Lily & Ted care very deeply about each other. It is definitely a nice change from what we usually see on shows. That's why I loved "How Lily Stole Christmas" because it showed that not only Marshall was hurting when Lily had left for a while. I loved seeing that Ted was also upset that his good friend had left and he had a hard time too. I just can't get enough of that scene. So sweet.

*nods* I loved seeing that, too. I think it's much more realistic that we got to see her leaving hurting close people around her, not only Marshall.
