For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

Thanks for the thread. I'll be sure to check in here once I've finished the book.

Yeah.
I thought we should have one

There is alot of buzz surrounding the book what with the television pilot having been made.

I wonder if it doesn't get picked up if we will get to see the pilot somehow.

Stay to the Lights 05-06-2012 09:04 AM

Hm.. probably not.

The pilot for Betwixt in 2010 didn't get picked up to series, but filmed a pilot, but we never got to see the pilot.
I don't think it happens very often, but one instance that it did happen.. with last year with Wonder Woman, where I think the pilot did leak online even though it was dropped.

Yeah it was aired at Comic Con and then leaked onto the net. I figure if the book does very well that we might get to see the pilot if indeed it does not go on to series. They could always film additional scenes and make it a tv movie. That would be a smart move on The CW's part if they don't pick it up.

Stay to the Lights 05-06-2012 09:41 AM

Yeah. I am hoping it does get picked up  I would think they would want to capitalize on the success of the genre right now.

~*Nikki*~ 05-06-2012 09:46 AM

Like they did with TVD when Twilight was all the rage.

Stay to the Lights 05-06-2012 09:53 AM

Exactly

I would say it stands a good chance. Won't be long now until we know something.

Stay to the Lights 05-06-2012 07:53 PM

Yeah. The upfronts are in 10 days.

I'm so nervous, really hoping The Secret Circle gets picked up for another season, Hart of Dixie as well, but I think that's a long shot.

Well having finished both the book and the pilot script, I can say that the show is going to be very very different from the book. First off, they've aged the characters to all be in their twenties which is okay since the cast are in their twenties and having an older set of characters is refreshing in a YA themed show. The show also has way more betrayl and corruption than the book has which could be something the book was leading towards in further installments, I don't know.

At this point.. my main is having The Secret Circle. They would be stupid not to renew it. I don't really care one way or another about Hart of Dixie. I think Ringer and probably Nikita will be cancelled, and OTH is already done so that would open up three spots.. and if they are thinking for the whole season, meaning mid season they could pick up a few.

Oh really? I didn't pick up the fact they were in their 20's  I must have missed that bit of info in the script.

ETA: Looked at the script again, and never mind she is 22.
That's better, because who wants to get married at 16? :lmao:

~*Nikki*~ 05-07-2012 12:42 AM

America was twenty two, Aspen twenty five, and so was Maxon. They also aged May to twenty. I noticed the Selection rules were any girl from eighteen to twenty five instead of sixteen. America was only sixteen in the book I believe with Aspen being a few years older than her.

Stay to the Lights 05-07-2012 12:44 AM

Ah right. I think it's better this way.. so this way this show wouldn't just be for teenagers, since the ages are a bit higher.
