Cooking Class: Cookbook Thread! Welcome to the Kitchen
I thought we could use a Cook Book thread! I love new cook books and watching Food Network and getting to know new Chefs and seeing their books.
So welcome to the kitchen! A place were we can post recipes. Discuss our favorite cook books and or authors. Talk about our kitchen adventures Please just PM me or post if you want to be added to the list of Kitchen Helpers Kitchen Helpers: k46 Here are some of my favorite chefs/writers Jamie Oliver I love the way he cooks even though I found his book kind of hard to follow. Nigella Lawson ROCKS!! I got to meet her at a book signing in Santa Monica and she is just amazing. A great speaker and I love her attitude towards food. That it is something to be enjoyed with friends not something to be scared of. Her books are fun to read and easy to follow. During her speech she said that she collects Cook Books. Which might explain why she wrote such great ones! Her Web Site Ina Garten Barefoot Contessa I love her ideas most of the time. Even though she does use a lot of mayo which I can't stand I have been reading through her book Barefoot in Paris at the bookstore and am soo tempted to buy it! Jacques Torres is the King of Chocolate!! I would marry this guy for his dessert skills in a second! His book looks great but a lot of the things seem hard to do. And of course a oldie but favorite Betty Crocker my Mom has one from the 1970's it is soo well worn but it seems to have everything in it I will have to look through my books to post some of my favorite recipes. So what about you guys whose cook books do you like? __________________

My favorite cookbook author is Mollie Katzen--she has some great vegetarian recipes. And my favorite of her cookbooks is The Enchanted Broccoli Forest.
I've also been (in a very small way) been collecting antique cookbooks. __________________

I have the "Bible" of Italian food, called "Il Cucchiaio D'Argento" (The Silver Spoon). It's from the 50s and it belongs to my granma, but I love it because it has every possible recipe you could ever make in Italian cooking. It's the perfect place to search if you are not sure about how a dish is made.
I am also a big fan of Jamie Oliver. He tries to make everything as easy as possible, even the toughest stuff. I also love the fact that his recipes are very flexible. BTW, k46, your avatar is hypnotical __________________

Does anyone here have any suggestions on Asian themed cookbooks. In general I'm looking for Japanese and Chinese food, not as much Thai, but will accept some if it's part of a larger cookbook. If anyone can help me, that'd be great.

As for cook/authors, I love Rachel Ray. I like her recipes and the fact that they can be prepared in 30 minutes is a great plus. I also like Alton Brown. I used to watch Nigella Bites and thought she was good, but I looked up one of her cookbooks and it was bad reviews. I still like her, though. |

Really Onion? I love her books but maybe I'm bias since they are all signed.
Rachel Ray is great! She was in Chicago today signing books I'm so bummed that I couldn't get off work to see her. __________________

My 4 yr old has a crush on Rachel Ray. I loves to watch her shows. He's not as into her food, though.
k46, have you tried Nigella's recipes? They look good on her show, but I've the reviews I read were that the recipes aren't that great. |

Yeah the few I have tried have been good. Onion please feel free to call me Kim btw I hate my screen name hee
That is so cute that your son has a crush on Rachel Ray. She seems like such a friendly person. I love her food to. I don't have her cook book but the few recipes I have gotten from food network.com have been great! Does anyone here have the Iron Chef book? I wonder if that has recipes in it. Some of the things they do on Iron Chef are so insane I can't imagine them tasting good __________________

I'm not much of a cook, but I love to bake.
My favorite cookbook is the Better Homes and Gardens cook book. I also get a lot of recipes online, mostly at foodtv.com and about.com. I would buy The Culinary Couple's Creative Colitis Cookbook but it got mostly bad reviews on Amazon from people with IBD, so I don't think I can eat any of the food. I have one of Alton Brown's books, but I haven't read it yet. I'd love to get some of Rachael Ray's books too. She's a local celebrity and I used to shop at the store where she was a chef, food buyer, and teacher. I don't remember if I saw her there or not though. __________________

Onion I guess I'm not that daring I need to look through the book. I don't eat any raw fish though and I'm not a big fan of liver or any other weird things so whenever I watch the show I never really want to eat the stuff I would love to get Bobby Flay's barbecue book! The stuff he makes on his show always look great! __________________
