I got the first book from one of my friends as a Christmas gift years ago. I read it then immediately and fell in love. Then I kinda forgot about the whole series, but last year I re-read it and then read the rest. Well, I'm currently on book seven. :D

But I would definitely recommend reading the book if you have the time!

Thanks for the new thread! :)

Diana is working on the second to last book, which is the ninth, "Tell the bees that I'm gone". I've understood from the facebook posts that it is nearly finished. Although, looking at the rate she has written things in the past, the last book is probably ready in like 2025  I really hope she doesn't take that long. The books are massive though. I've listened to most of them as audiobooks and the duration is 45hours to 55hours

:eek::jaw_drop:

And how old is she? Let's hope she gets them out before the age of 90. Or before the show catches up to where she is.

Daaaaaamn that's as long as Count of Monte Cristo. You can earn the Everest badge with it on audible.

Well, with the pandemic and lots of productions delayed then any author with their book adapted has the chance to catch up with writing so that the show doesn't catch up to their already released books.

She's only 69, so I would think that she will be able to finish them before getting too old. That is actually such a scary thought that the show surpasses it and we get Game of Thrones kind of situation where the producers of the TV show make up the ending. Would hate to see it end with anything else than what Diana intended.

It is actually a very scary thought that what it something happened to her, or any other writer who hasn't finished their series, before they were able to complete their books? :thud:

Sometimes it can be an exhausting listen, and it feels like the numbers never go down

I totally understand, it is very tedious read sometimes because Diana writes in so much details that it is hard to follow. But to me the story is interesting enough to keep at it

 Just gotta lock yourself in a room without distraction to get it done.

Is that what happened with GOT? I thought GRM just told them how it was supposed to end and they did what they wanted with that outline?

I would hate for the catchup to happen because (also) then it might make a reader feel like what's the point of reading if you know the outcome...you know? Like you've been spoiled.

I totally understand that pain

Do you have a favorite of the series?

Do you mean she spends a lot of time describing the colors of a curtain?

I actually remember reading that he didn't like the ending that much. In one interview he said something like it 'wasn't faithful to his ideas'.

Obviously the first one is the ultimate favorite, but I also like the third book Voyager and the sixth A Breath of Snow and Ashes . :)

She has a lot of internal monologue for the characters, and sometimes I feel like it's hard to keep up. The books also have a huge amount of characters, and where some of them will be important later and are smartly placed along the story, I never can keep up with all the names

Ah, so anyone who reads the books can now feel like they can read the last ones and be surprised. That's a good thing.

hmmmm this sounds like they're best to read then, especially if the print versions come with a character list.

BehrItAll 01-26-2021 07:48 PM

I appreciate when books come with a Dramatis personae.

Unfortunately, they don't. I own first five books and just checked. :D But reading them would probably still be the best, since I had so much trouble keeping up with the second book, where they are in France a large part of the book. The reader for the audiobook pronounces french names and places so well that I was so confused at times

Yes, definitely. Someone pops up in the book and you can check if you met them before, One of my favorite examples of this is this Norwegian book series called "The legend of Ice people", which tells the story of a one family and every book the first pages are an updated family tree.

LilMouse 01-27-2021 10:08 AM

Family trees are the best, especially for period pieces when couples had 5+ kids.

Any French listener must be so relieved they don't have to cringe whenever the narrator says something French.
