Well, when you have the connection to them through all those books it is understandable.

Yeah, especially when the original series isn't even done. Focus on the main story!!

We still get some good scenes, but I just want my babies and not listen William leading his army

Agree completely. IDK if authors get bored or something and need another story to renew their juices...but use the time to finish the main story and then do spinoffs.

I agree.

Do authors ever admit in interviews that they wrote a spin off because they got bored?

I wouldn't be surprise if they don't admit it, but I felt like they just force themselves by thinking that it would be good..

I never heard an author say they wrote a spinoff or an entirely new series because they got bored, but I don't read all author interviews.

I know Katherine Arden is writing the Small Spaces series at the same time as the book she calls "the thing" so I don't know how she can divide her time between the two.

I follow V.E Schwab and she often describes her schedule to show how she writes different things at once and also do some self-care.

A day in the life, as it is right now.
To be honest, before lockdown, it all looked different. Before lockdown, I never sat still lock enough to have a routine. And in a couple weeks when the First Kill room ends, my schedule will change shape again. But this is what it looks like right now. Give or take an hour here or there. Give or take a book read on a bicycle or a morning sleep-in or a violin lesson or a night gone late with meetings.

Here we go. New year. New month. New day. New chart.

I get asked a ton of questions about my habit tracker, so here are a few answers:
—the tasks I put on the list change every month as needed.
—I fill in the square after completing said task (“completing” is a flexible concept, sometimes it’s 10 min, sometimes hours).
—it’s never about filling in ALL the squares EVERY day. It’s about reinforcing that every day is a fresh start, and keeping track of patterns (so that 1 day without doing x doesn’t become 15 days without doing x).
—there’s no punishment or negative self-talk in this system. It’s not about what you fail to do, but accounting for what you manage.
—I purposefully put both professional and personal goals on the list, so even if I’m having an unproductive writing day, I can have a productive self day.

I like what she says about not beating yourself up if you don't complete everything on the list.

And while her 4 hours of book work sounds really short, I wonder how much she actually gets done.

Yea, everyday is a new day.

I guess it depends how fast she thinks and types.

Pierce Brown says he can write 100 pages in 2 months.
A first draft can take 8-9 months.

Wow, thanks for that! That's very interesting!

But that is probably the way to do it, and not just think about writing, but make a habit out of it and just do it,

Make it a routine and it will become a habit - like brushing your teeth.

Because you can always fix it later.

Deborah Harkness says that just thinking about a scene when grocery shopping counts.

I hope she has a piece of paper or her phone to write all her good ideas down. I'd end up forgetting.
