Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl #1: A new unique supernatural story to fall in love with.
Beautiful Creatures Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps, and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever. Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen. Quote:

What did you think of the book Jen?
I keep seeing it and picking it up, but haven't gotten it yet. And wow, a movie deal already. __________________

The book was pretty good, it is told from a guy's POV which isn't something you find very often.
Its cute, maybe a little predictible in some parts.. looking forward to the next book |

I'd just recently heard about this book. It's good to hear that it has a male persepective, something to allow the book to stand out more in the genre. This one is still on my to-be-read pile, but I'll stop by after I've finished it for discussion and to see what everyone else thought
I'm surprised that it has already been optioned for a movie, although I probably shouldn't be |

Yeah i was surprised it got optioned for a movie even before the book came out But i guess, they liked the premise of it, and went with it.

I really enjoyed reading the book entirely from Ethan's perspective. I didn't realize until reading this, that most of the other books that I've read, if they have male POV at all, still switch between the female/male main characters. It was a refreshing change.
I didn't get sucked into the book until the very end, but it was a great ending with a couple of twists I didn't seem coming (though a couple I did). All in all, I'm very interested in where the story goes next. |
