That's because they weren't in the series. Mr. Hollis owned the house that the Lord & Lady moved into- the lord died, leaving Lady Denham in residence.

Season 2 DVD's will be out in May.

I have it on my Netflix waiting list. I want to see how the writers go with this;
they think they are doing the period and Austen justice.

s2 doesn't have my attention, tbh.

And where are the bonnets and why do the women wear their hair down?

There were some comments on-line about wearing hair down.
In the DVD extras, the producers said something about taking some poetic license, but
keeping to the period.

I dislike that producer excuse. They always try to make it relatable to modern audiences and I, personally, don't need to have something dumbed down / made relatable for me. I like historical accuracy.

Yes. While there were Austen characters, it wasn't an Austen story.

It's different if the producers are upfront about not caring about accuracy, but if you are trying to pass it off as accurate

They think they are doing well for Austen.
While it might be a nice story, we all know Austen wouldn't have all those things in her books.

Same. On both statements.

I wonder what Emma Thompson would've done with Sanditon
