40 minutes.... Another night. But thanks for sharing.

:)

It was a good, comprehensive video. Talked about the writing, characters, costumes etc.

The part that made me facepalm the most is when the writing/dialog was being talked about and I had to hear lines like

"He is a 10. I never trust a 10"
and how they turned Anne into a woman who downs a full bottle of red wine :bawl: Austen would never! A lady downing a bottle of wine is :nono:

Mansfield Park is still on a very long wait at Netflix.

I will have to check out that youtube video when I have 40 minutes. ;)

Every time someone mentions Mansfield Park they talk about how the protagonist, Fanny, is their least favorite Austen protagonist, so now I am reluctant to read it. Even though I did see the movie and didn't have a problem with her in it.

Multi-task. While you post here, watch it in another tab.

You obviously don't agree with the masses so ignore them.

Well have to give it a try in our quest to read all things Austen.

True. Unless it was the rare adaptation that bettered the source material

Reading my current book, I keep thinking how it would blow Jane Austen's mind to find out her books have been adapted into so many mediums + her lift is cared about.

IndyFan 07-31-2022 06:08 PM

She would make a lot of money these days on her books, and even more for some new novels.

Reminds me of that Doctor Who episode with Van Gogh, when he sees how his work is beloved and in museums and he's so touched he cried. And then I cried.

IndyFan 08-01-2022 04:32 AM

I never saw that; sounds like fun.

LilMouse 08-01-2022 12:09 PM

I can't deal with that Dr. Who episode

Why is it that iconic artists (writers, painters, singers) have tragic lives?

It's not fun. The end is sad. You'll cry your eyes out.

That video was good. And now I know not to waste my time on a crappy adaptation.

I finished my Jane Austen Society book, and the last chapter has an interview between the author and another big Jane fan. They were talking about how Northanger Abbey breaks the fourth wall, and I thought to myself how NA probably would've worked better as the Netflix adaptation than Persuasion did. Why not choose NA? They chose the wrong material because Anne/Persuasion is never going to work with the style they wanted.

IndyFan 08-02-2022 03:03 PM

O.K., so avoiding the story, even though Van Gogh liked seeing his work.
Maybe I can find a clip of just that part.
