I think 24 is good.

I am also glad things have changed since Austen's time. It's less frowned upon to be a spinster.

BehrItAll 03-28-2022 07:42 PM

Yea, wasn't it the rule back then a woman in a book either had to get married or die at the end?

IndyFan 03-29-2022 06:29 AM

Marrying young was preferred. Poor Jane died young.

I don't know if it was a rule but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

The publisher said it to Jo in the Little Women movie from 2019.

IndyFan 03-31-2022 07:43 AM

How rude to Jo. ( I almost typed Little Joe- different story! :lmao: )

LilMouse 03-31-2022 09:15 AM

Oh right! That was said to her.
Makes you want to have a book with only females so there is no men to marry. But that wouldn't get published or the publisher would say every character has to die.

BehrItAll 04-01-2022 07:37 PM

Would have to self publish. Start your own magazine.

The Pickwick Papers!

IndyFan 04-02-2022 05:37 AM

I think she could have published.

LilMouse 04-02-2022 07:55 PM

That would've been awesome if she could start her own publishing house.

I have finished the first disc 1 of Sanditon....

It for the most part, is just like an Austen book.
The actress playing Charlotte reminds me so much of Keira Knightley, that when she and Sidney get in each others face and argue, it is just like Elizabeth and Darcy.
There are strong characters and goofy characters.

However, I somehow doubt that Jane would have the man rise up out of the sea after swimming naked, and stand in front of the surprised girl. I also don't think she would dream of writing a scene where another girl undoes a mans pants and has her way with him. I don't think I will find that in her book.

Will see the rest of Season 1 later this week.

The idea of this would've given Jane a heart attack and I don't think she'd think highly of the people involved in this.

Same. When you read the book you'll have to tell us if this is vaguely in it.

IndyFan 04-03-2022 06:20 PM

I just got Sanditon on my Kindle, so I will see what Jane has to say.

.

I agree. They took many 21st century liberties.
