How Long Does It Take You To Read?

How long does it take you to read a book?

For me, it varies. If it's an "easy" read, a light, fun book that I read for comfort, and it's a typical 250-300 page novel, I can read it in about four hours. Thank includes brief breaks for snacks and bathroom breaks. So what is that.... a little over 100 pages in an hour??? Under.... I'm bad at math :P

However, for more dense texts, such as theory books or critical reviews, it takes me long.

About a century to 2 centuries.

I am a frequent library criminal....errr....book renewer.

My sister's usual face expression to my response of how long I took to read any book:

It not only depends on the length of the novel, but also what genre it is. If it's a short book, I can read it in a few hours. If it's longer, it can take up to a week or two. I tend to read romances quicker than speculative fiction or classics though. And no matter how long a Clive Barker book is, I can finish it in less than a week.

I used to hate taking longer than 3 days to read one book (if I do, I'll have forgotten the beginning by the time I finish), but I'm so busy with school these days and some books are crazy long that sometimes I have to. Thankfully, I can usually zip right through YA novels in one to three hours.

I remember reading The Da Vinci Code in one sitting. I think it took me about 6 hours. I had a headache afterwards, and I didn't even like the book, unfortunately. I just needed to find out how it ended.

If I really love the book I'm like you Carol and can finish it in a few hours. When I'm not at work and I have no other plans I can read 1-3 books a day.

it depends on how much i'm into the book. average is three days, but sometimes only one. i can read most v.c. andrews books in about 7 hours.

I'm a fairly fast reader, but it depends mainly on how interesting the book is and the writing style of the book. If the book is boring, something that's hard for me to focus on and get into, it will take me longer to read it. If the writing style is more difficult, no matter how short or long the book is, it will take me longer (i.e. a book that's 175 pages, but with a more complex writing style has taken me longer to read than a 300 page novel with a simpler writing style). Even taking that into account, if the book hooks me, I will get through it pretty fast, within a couple of days. Average time for me is probably 3 or 4 days. Most books I read are in the 275-300+ pages range.

If I'm really into the book, maybe a day, or two. But if I hate, like those Biology books :puke: a whole semester

I usually can read the lighter fiction books in under a day, especially if the writing style if simple and easy to get caught up in.
I try to give the books that demand more thought more time. But still I usually get caught up in what's happening, and don't read between the lines as much.
And if the book is really boring, it will take me a long long time. But I always try to finish it, because I hate giving up on a book :)

When I was a kid I was able to read a book in 2 to 3 days. Now it depends, with work and depending on how long and interesting the book is. A small book about 100 - 150 pages takes about a week. A 250 -300 + novel takes about a month. Although I finished The DaVinci Code in a week, so if I really decidated myself to a big novel I could finish in a week.

I'm lucky when it comes to textbooks because I'm doing Child Care at TAFE, and most of the textbooks are really interesting. I do take longer to read those, though, because I need to keep taking breaks so all the information can sink in. Plus, I take notes.
With fiction, I can read a book in a day, if I'm really interested and have nothing else I have to do. I often stay up half the night because I want to finish a book
If it's a book I love, I keep going back to my favourite paragraphs and rereading them too.
Also, it takes me longer if it's one of those books that revolves around the lives of a lot of different characters because I have to keep gonig back to see who they are
People are often amazed when I say I've finished a book in less than a week, especially when the book is a long one.

It depends on the type of book.

When I was younger I used to be able to read very quickly and remember all details of the story.

Now I tend to forget certain information easily :( and reading takes me longer. If I'm dedicated and ithe book has about 300 to 400 pages it usually takes me a week. Each day a few chapters. When at school, due to time, it might take me a month.

And if the book is very boring I usually never finish it

 I guess I was thinking of no interruptions, just lounging all day reading... that's when I can finishe a book in about 3-4 hours.

In fact, I was on a flight from Ft. Lauderdale to Dallas which was delayed, etc. I finished the book during the flight and waiting time, and my aunt, who was with me, was quite shocked. She at first didn't believe that was the same book....

The time it takes me to finish a book depends on if I'm into a book. But on average I read around 100pgs/hr.
