Fairy tales never bothered me; I knew they were fantasy.
Reading about a boys dogs being killed is too real life; I wouldn't make 11 year olds read that. |

But also... if a kid does lose someone close to them, how do you help them cope? Maybe a book like that would be good therapy? So yea, it was traumatizing and the emotion stayed with me...but also didn't I learn something about life? That people mourn and after a period of time you realize life does go on. Oh my gosh! I just now remembered that around the time I read that book in school my grandma passed away. Maybe that is why it stayed with me? It was a book to help me mourn and cope. Quote:
