British Classics
I hope it's ok that I start a new thread. I just noticed that there were very few threads about books written by British authors and certainly none that I could find on the so-called "classics." Rather than starting a thread for different authors in this genre, I thought it may be easiest to have one thread for all of them.
So anyone have opinions on Austen or Dickens or Wilde etc..? Personally I love classics. I first got into them by watching the BBC mini-series. And having enjoyed them on TV, I decided to read them for myself. Pride and Prejudice is so more appealing to read when you can picture Colin Firth as Mr Darcy |

That's an awfully big topic.
And I'm on a total Shakespeare bender right now. __________________

I don't care so much for Jane Austen. I read "Emma" and "Pride and Prejudice." They're cute, but nothing you can really sink your teeth into.

Love Dickens especially Oliver Twist. I think that's the only book of his I've actually finished though! Must work on it.

Jane Eyre is probably my favorite classic British novel, although I am also fond of Wuthering Heights, Great Expectations, and P&P. However, my heart really belongs to British poetry, particularly the works of Shakespeare, Eliot (if he counts; if not, well, I'm still mad about him), Tennyson, Browning (Robert), and assorted 16th-17th century pieces (To Althea from Prison, Song to Celia, etc.).

I have read some Dickens, Great Expectations, and a lot of Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, Caesar, but I'm taking British Lit. next year for my english class so I should get to read a lot more.

There's a thread about Shakespeare if my memory isn't too messed up.
I love the British Classics! I used to love to wander in the Penguin Classics section in the library. I probably have all the Shakespeare comedies in that collection, and some of his dramas too. The Jane Austen books are also some must-have, especially Pride and Prejudice and Emma. The Bronte sisters, Dickens, Andersen, Wilde, Wharton... to name a few, are other favourite British classic authors of mine. __________________

I liked Jane Eyre too. Which Bronte was that, Charlotte? I get them mixed up. I just know I liked Jane Eyre, but I HATED Wuthering Heights. I think I wanted to strangle every singlce character in tha book.

Now THAT sounds like my kind of book. Actually, it sounds like a stage play. No, wait, that's the one about nine characters in search of an author.

For some reason my all-time favorite Brittish Classic is Dicken's David Copperfield. I love how it mixes comedic characters with some really dark, complex ones.
Theif Of Love: Those books are HILARIOUS! Miss Hannigan was awesome in the third one. She was my favorite character. There's a new one coming out in August. I'm so excited. __________________
