You mean Eric?

When Eric is named their high school's most eligible Viking (i.e. bachelor) and when he was named employee of the month at PriceMart, he let both of those things go to his head. Balance, man. Balance.

Yes, he was acting a little too high and mighty.

Probably a reaction to the fact he often thinks so little of himself. So he goes to extremes.

I can see that. I have seen people do that.

Eric needed to build some true self-esteem. Donna helped him with that at the beginning of the series, but then that part of their dynamic seemed to go .

A lot of good character-developing stories could've been written for him, but the writers seemed to get burned out by season 6.

I felt the writers started to run out of ideas at that point.

Bringing Jackie and Hyde together romantically was the highlight. They didn't know how to top that, so maybe they decided to go the other way?

But, really, their main problem was not thinking about character deeply enough. If they had, about Eric's, Donna's, Jackie's, etc. motivations and goals and personalities, they could've found plenty of internal and external conflict to write stories about.

So let's say the show decided to let Eric and Donna have a longer engagement instead of pushing them to get married (or not) by the end of season 6, we could've actually see them enjoy their engagement a bit instead of worrying about Red and Kitty's approval and without Eric lying to Donna and acting out.

I think if Eric and Donna had a longer engagement it could have been more interesting.

Colleen, the show did well when it had Eric, Donna, Jackie, and/or Hyde go to Red and/or Kitty for advice. Letting Eric and Donna stay engaged, the show could've explored what being engaged means a bit more instead of just them fighting to stay engaged.

I agree. It might have given them a chance to work out their issues too before they walked down the isle.

Because, otherwise, they'd be working them out as newlyweds.

Maybe the show should've done a flash-forward after season 6. No more '70s. But now we get a season of all the characters as adults (and in their rightful pairings ). The show was so weird with time anyway that a flash-forward would've fit right in.
