People are getting stupider by the nanosecond- on the main road they're building this Best Western (why anyone would want to stay in this town is beyond me), and there's this woman who's upset because they're building over gopher holes. Everday you can see her holding signs telling us to think of the poor gophers and the different animals nesting there, but today she actually jumped in front of the bulldozer. Saw the thing while we were stuck at the red light- she just lay there for five minutes. It was.. weird.

Seven: OY! Aren't gophers like, the biggest yard pests ever, barring snakes? And to lay in front of the bulldozer, dramatic. Is she by herself or are there several others with her? And how are things going, we haven't talked in like forever.

It's just this one woman. There's so many other things in the world to get upset over, she picks gophers.

Things are ok. Leaving for California in about two weeks, and I so wish we could go sooner. How you doing?

LOL. I finished a few days ago. Sean's nearly done, which is pretty cool, he normally doesn't have enough patience to get through all eighty million pages.

God forbid SOMEONE stands up for the voiceless who are simply trying to exist in their own natural habitat.

I don't really have a problem with her standing up, I have a problem with people throwing themselves in front of bulldozers, when the city's already said they're building a hotel and that's that.

Well the Government had it's way with Native Americans 150 years ago so I hardly think a gopher stands a chance. This woman is just looking for attention. Let her take all the gophers to her home and see how much she likes them. She'll go Red Forman on them in no time. :lol:

That's what I am talking about, she is being all radical. It's a gopher.

That's horrible. MANY peple actually do put other creatures high in their priorities. I think animals have just as much worth as humans and I give this woman props for doing what I'd be too afraid to do.

We think we're entitled to every-frickin-thing simply because we're "more advanced" than anything else. Bow down before us if you can't speak our language or build a ****ing computer, or any form of technology that will help your race become lazy inconsiderate *******s. :rolleyes:

OK, first of all the plans and permission had to go through MONTHS in advance of the actual construction, this lady had more than enough time to garner support, submit her opposition, etc. Maybe she did, maybe she didn't. It's not like every single thing that OUR town does isn't discussed on the access cable channel at the municipality meetings each month. Where locals get to stand up and say "No, we don't want no wurlmert!" or "the traffic at this intersectin is harrible!" or "Yes my fence is three feet over my propurty line but blah blah blah" I mean, you can't fart a proposal (which are posted on trees and poles around the area to be built on, by the way) without seventy five thousand people showing up at the police station for the freaking televised meeting to have their say. She needs to accept that if she didn't act in time, garner enough support, or even get any animal rights activist on her side, then she lost. And to me, it doesn't sound like she did any of this, because you know those animal folks would be right there with her. So. She's trespassing at this point, if she hits the property under constructin they should have her arrested.

Also, gophers are amazingly adaptable. I'm sure she'll have more people sympathetic to her cause when they find the surrounding areas now have holes. :P

I was merely pointing out that it IS possible for a human being to hold such a small, seemingly unimportant animal in such high regards. That is all. I'm not here to argue the legalities of what she's doing.

Yes but picketing vs. throwing yourself in front of construction equipment pushes the activist more into obsessive compulsive tin foil area. The gopher HOLES are goners, that doesn't mean the gophers will die. I need to have a good talk with that lady. *sigh* Plus jeez, it's already done and paid for, find another area to save or picket, you know? Someone should stop by and remind her of the animal shelters and whatnot.

Yeah, she looks good, but omg they're all fashion victims.
