 Classic Comics Sunday --- Those ’70s Comics: 849 Inspired by episode 512 - “Misty Mountain Hop”  --- Comments: Eric now knows the truth about Jackie’s life situation. On the, as in the comics, he doesn’t tell Hyde. Granted, he doesn’t have a chance since Hyde’s already off to the DMV with Kelso. But in the comics, Eric mentally makes the connection between Hyde and Jackie. Unrelated, in the episode Kitty says she packed an overnight bag -- yet everyone returns to Point Place from the ski cabin (which is in Alpine Valley) that same night. I didn’t realize this discrepancy while writing the comics for “Misty Mountain Hop” (5x12), but now II wish I had followed up on Kitty’s line. Classic Comics Sunday --- Those ’70s Comics: 851 Inspired by episode 512 - “Misty Mountain Hop”  --- Comments: Hyde’s character in season 5 is manipulated at times by the T7S writers to manufacture conflict with Jackie. That wasn’t necessary since plenty of conflict can and does arise naturally from his and Jackie’s characters. This episode has Eric and Jackie speak about Hyde in ways that contradict Hyde’s characterization and actions on the show from “Prom Night” (1x19) on. I made a course-correction, folding that dialogue into a discussion Eric and Jackie have reminding each other of who Hyde really is and what he actually does -- and Eric and Jackie getting frustrated at the other’s seeming lack of memory and upside-down perspective. I also grounded Jackie’s belief that Hyde should be able to “just know” what is going in her life in their history together, which bridges their S1-S3 relationship to their S5-plus relationship. This connection creates a continuous throughline for them and strengthens the cohesiveness of the T7S universe. __________________
