My That '70s Show Fanfic [FFnet / AO3. A selection of stories:

Hyde's Long Way Home [FFnet / AO3]

Summary: Hyde goes on a self-destructive bender after finding Jackie with a towel-wrapped Kelso. The day after that, he wakes up... and it's the same day as before. He's doomed to live the same day over and over -- unless he can figure out a way to live it right.

---

Beneath a Shattered Sky [FFnet / AO3]

Summary: Jackie grows strange with Hyde's ring finally on her finger, and Hyde must discover why before it destroys them both. A Forman family secret may hold the key, but the revelation thrusts Eric and Donna into peril. The threat to them all stretches far beyond Point Place, conspiring to put an end to true love ... everywhere.

Rated: M, appropriate for 16-years-old and up.

---

Halloween Is Over [FFnet / AO3]

Summary: Eric wants to be scared for Halloween, really scared. Donna proposes a contest, and all their friends are in. But Hyde and Jackie's renewed relationship might not withstand the stress. Donna and Kelso must fight their impulses, and Fez and Eric's chances of survival are slim.

Rated: M, appropriate for 16-years-old and up.

---

Made Bare [FFnet / AO3]

Summary: A heartbroken Hyde considers his relationship with Jackie kaput. Too bad Jackie sees it differently. She intends to get a proper resolution with him, but breaking through his hostility — and getting past his wife — may well prove impossible.

Comments: I wanted to make Kelso’s subextual reasons for inviting Annette to Point Place on the show text in the comics. In other words, obvious. Kelso’s premeditated machinations and his deviousness are often glossed over, as if he’s too stupid or naive to be able to be purposely manipulative. But this side of his character is evident even in season 1.

His lack of common sense doesn’t negate his ability to scheme. In fact, the two go hand-in-hand. He lacks the common sense and self-awareness not to scheme.

Comments: Exploring how Hyde’s pancake-flipping experience might go was fun. The show itself could’ve had fun with it, too, in an end-tag of the episode, but alas. Fortunately, the comics allow me to fill in gaps and depict (and expand on) scenes we only hear about in a character’s dialogue.

This comic is also a parallel to and foreshadowing of Hyde being cheered up in “Christmas” (6x07) by Jackie wearing her cheerleader uniform for him (and performing a private cute-sexy routine).

Comments: Honestly, I was just having some Zennie fun with this one. Also, that fire is ridiculous(ly high), but it allowed me not to have to draw Hyde in side-view crouching position. I have to draw a lot of comics in a short period of time so I can keep the posting schedule consistent. Back when I created this one, I was posting a new comic every day -- so seven comics a week. A total of 365 new comics a year. Making artistic shortcuts was a necessity.

It still is, but I’m less apt to making them. It’s all about visual accuracy to the story I’m telling. Keeping the the characters in the same outfits for every comic would be incredibly convenient and save me a ton of time. I can’t bring myself to do it. If a show’s episode has most of the characters in five different outfits throughout, so will the comic version of the characters ... in the five or six positions I draw the characters in (e.g., standing front, standing side, sitting front, etc.).

Comments: I brought back Fez’s toy-filled room and added a piece of art, inspired by Kelso putting his butt-print on Hyde’s freshly-waxed car on the show and as an example of the closeness that develops between Fez and Kelso in season 5.
