--- Those ’70s Comics: 710 Inspired by episode 508 - “Thank You” --- Comments: Hyde’s faithfulness to Jackie (in the comics) is concrete, as is his honesty. Depicting those facts was one of my motivations for this storyline. Another was to show how Jackie and Hyde are truly partners (sometimes in crime). And it pains me (yet again) that I chose to follow T7S’s direction toward the end of season 5 -- because the comics’ version of Hyde would have dealt with that situation much differently. I went with T7S’s Hyde-sleeps-with-the-nurse story, however, in large part to show how he and Jackie should have dealt with his choices vs. how T7S wrote it. I do like the follow-up storyline in the comics. Hyde earns Jackie’s forgiveness instead of acting entitled to it and, worse, as if he’s the injured party. In fact, he’s not sure he deserves her forgiveness at all, and his actions force him to face his emotional wounding and blind spots. But the foundation developed and strengthened between Jackie and Hyde in the comics’ version of “Thank You” ultimately helps them reconcile healthily in season 6. --- Smoke Brushes Adobe7.0+ --- Colleen, thank you! __________________

--- Those ’70s Comics: 711 Inspired by episode 508 - “Thank You” --- Comments: I wrote this comic (and the Laurie-goes-after-Hyde-storyline), in large part, to reframe Jackie and Hyde’s horribly-written reconciliation in ”Down the Road Apiece” (7x17). In that episode, they dismiss the foundation of love and experience in their relationship: Fez: Obviously, there was something that brought you together. What was that? Jackie: Well, I guess I like the way his scruffy beard felt on my soft, creamy porcelain skin. Hyde: Yeah, I kinda liked that, too I also kinda liked the fact that she was technically still with Kelso. Jackie: And I knew being with him would piss of my mom Hyde: And all my friends. Jackie: Oh, and we had to keep it a secret. Hyde: And I felt kind of ashamed of myself Jackie: So did I. Hyde: I kinda liked that, too. Jackie: So did I! Oh, its just so wrong. Hyde: Which is what made it so hot. Jackie: So hot. Whoever wrote this episode either didn’t watch the previous two-and-a-half years of the show, willfully ignored them, or didn’t understand them. The above scene is filled lies and non-factual details that outright contradict what actually happened in all the episodes before “Down the Road Apiece”. It depicts Jackie and Hyde’s relationship as being based on emotional-kink. So I wrote a scene in season 5 where Jackie and Hyde first play a mess-with-people’s-heads game for fun and to protect themselves. They’re canonically private (in all ways) about their relationship in general, and one of Hyde’s main defense mechanisms is misdirection and lying about his true motives. So for him and Jackie to banter improvisationally about the “facts” of their relationship to other people is in-character. For them, also, to misdirect Fez about the “facts” of their relationship in “Down the Road Apiece” would’ve also be in-character, to keep the truth behind their reconciliation private. If the writer of that episode had just put in a coda where Jackie and Hyde are sitting together in the basement, all cuddly, and ... Jackie: Oh, Steven, I’m so glad we’re back together. Hyde: Me, too. Man, that was fun screwing with Fez’s head. Jackie: Yeah, he was totally trying to play therapist with us. Like I would tell him I love how you teach me about philosophy and chess. Hyde [caressing her hair]: And how hearin’ you talk a scares the hell out of me ‘cause I like it so much. No way I’d let anyone know that. Jackie [grinning]: Except me, but Fez would probably think the truth was boring. Hyde: Probably, last time I saw a shrink -- state-mandated -- I told him my dream was to start an Alpaca farm. Jackie: What’s an Alpaca? Hyde: You know, I’m still not freakin’ sure. Jackie: That’s cool ... They start making out. End of episode. ... then their reconciliation in “Down the Road Apiece” would have worked, fit into the context of the episodes in season 7 (and 6 and 5) before this one, and been emotionally satisfying. __________________

--- Those ’70s Comics: 712 Inspired by episode 508 - “Thank You” --- Comments: This is one of those slightly goofy comics, a mishmash of different story elements and jokes that weren’t quite enough to merit their own comics, so they ended up together in one. --- Complete Tree Brush Pack __________________

--- Those ’70s Comics: 713 Inspired by episode 508 - “Thank You” --- Comments: Kitty’s dad has some powerful legs. He keeps jumping halfway through the ceiling when shocked awake. Since T7S didn’t give us much in the way of Jackie and Hyde’s sex life (despite all their make-outs), I wanted to include it in the comics. Eric and Donna, Red and Kitty, Fez and Nina, Kelso and too-many-to-list have their sex-lives regularly referenced and shown (in a network-sitcom-safe way). Jackie and Hyde don’t. J/H fans have asked questions about that since T7S originally aired and continue to do so. The comics depicts the answer unambiguously. --- Star Vector Brush Set PS7 --- Kayla, Colleen, thank you! __________________
