That's Chris for ya.

But other than that smart advice, what else might Bob have told Eric before Eric's wedding to Donna? The scene where Bob warns Eric about women becoming bitchier as they get older -- while Donna's sitting right there -- was just soooo awful. I mean, the scene was good, but Bob wasn't being a good dad in that moment.

I couldn't believe Bob said that, right in front of Donna, I was so appalled!

What was the episode? I don't remember Bob saying that.

The episode is "The Good Son" (125). Here's the scene:

Eric and Donna are making out on the couch. We hear Bob and Midge arguing from outside.

MIDGE: Here's a crazy idea: why don't you do the dishes, Bob?

BOB: Why don't I do the dishes? I work all day!

Eric and Donna stop kissing.

MIDGE: Well, I meditate all day!

BOB: Why don't you meditate over the sink and wash the dishes!

Bob and Midge come in. Eric and Donna move away from each other.

MIDGE: Donna, will you tell your father he's a jackass!

Bob pours a glass of Scotch.

BOB: Donna, your mother was fine until she met those feminists and started thinking!

MIDGE: Well, excuse me, Bob, but I'm not happy!

Midge leaves the room, crying.

BOB: Really? Really? Well, I'm ecstatic!

Bob turns to Eric.

BOB: You better watch out, Eric, ‘cause it's all fun when you're making out on the couch, but then they get bigger and bitchier!

Bob looks at Donna

BOB: Hey, no offense, honey.

Bob looks at Eric and nods as an affirmation of his warning; then he leaves. Donna looks on the verge of crying.

ERIC: You're not gonna get bitchier, are you?

DONNA: Shut up!

ERIC: Oh, no.

---

I totally understand why Donna was upset after that. Her parents are fighting really badly. Her father's chauvinism comes out full force, and he essentially said Donna's going to become a bitch. How nice.

---

Bob does something similar in "Red's Birthday" (210) when he and Midge write nasty things to each other on a paper posted on the fridge. I think Midge had written "Jackass!" and Bob wrote, "Bitch!" The scene then goes as follows:

BOB: Donna, I don’t want you reading this!
DONNA: Dad, Hyde’s here!
BOB [to Hyde]: Well, you can read it because you’ll appreciate it, [to Donna] but not you!

---

Bob halfway knows his behavior isn't good for his kid, but he's just so un-self-aware.

Yeah, Bob says things like that a lot... those times I can semi-understand (totally hate, but understand) only because things were really crazy with Midge, so he was acting irrationally. I also remember when he said that Donna "wouldn't have been president of a company or anything 'cause she's a gal, but she would have been one hell of a secretary!" (probably not the exact quote, but it's close enough). I laughed, but sort of rolled my eyes at that. Those were the times, though, I guess.

I love Bob so much, though, he's quite the character -- despite his patriarchal tendencies .

I love Bob too, he means well, their were times he just didn't know better.

I did love how protective he was of Donna though. I loved how after Eric left her at the alter he just sprayed Eric with water repeatedly.

I agree, and I agree. I understand where Bob's behavior is coming from. It just would've been nice for him to think before he acted on his feelings. But that's not Bob.

I like his character, though. He's an interesting guy, and it's fun seeing how he and the other characters interact with each other.

Yup he did! It was when Eric and Donna were in bed and woke up in the morning. Bob was standing there with a spray bottle talking to the two of them and kept spraying Eric in the face, then handed Eric a bill for the wedding.

That's right! Sooo funny! Maybe the best part of Eric being OOC and not showing up a the wedding.

Wow, that spray bottle gets a lot of use in the Pinciotti house. I wonder if Jackie and Hyde ever retaliated for Donna spraying them (though they actually earned it). Hyde and Jackie really should've locked the door.

Ooh, or Donna and Eric could've made out on Hyde's cot -- though I'm not sure either of them would really want to, considering what Jackie and Hyde do on that cot.

It probably was the best part about Eric being OOC and not showing up. Although I do like the scene when he comes back, it was a cute moment between the two.

I can't see Eric and Donna doing stuff on Hyde's cot, but I do think it would be funny if Jackie and Hyde got Donna back for spraying them.

I could see Jackie thinking Donna having to be physically intimate with Eric as being punishment enough. By breaking up their make-outs, Jackie would think she's doing Donna a favor.

I could totally see Jackie saying that. She would think she is helping in her own Jackie way.
