Bob's sexism is a deliberate, essential part of his character and storylines for four seasons. Joanne is the one who finally teaches him feminism -- which he promptly forgets (mostly) once Joanne dumps him.

Getting rid of Joanne so that Bob could date Jackie's mom was a terrible choice, but RATINGS!

Joanne brought a fresh energy to the show. Her interactions with Kitty and Red are great. It's too bad the show didn't think to write any kind of relationship-building episode between her and Donna -- which would've made total sense since they're both feminists. They totally could've bonded. Yeah, Donna was devastated over losing Eric and her mom (breakup and essentially abandonment), but Joanne could've given her support she wasn't otherwise getting. Just like Kitty gave Donna support -- that Eric selfishly ended.
