I like what you guys say about it also stemming from misogyny. It reminds me of Breaking Bad. I don't know how familiar with that show either of you are but the main character Walter White's wife Skyler gets a LOT of hate from that fandom simply because she gets in the way of Walter's secret criminal activities. Walter spends a lot of the series sneaking around behind Skyler's back to commit criminal activity, and Skyler gets labelled a "bitch" by a lot of BB fans whenever she becomes suspicious of Walter and tries to figure out what he's up to, even though she has valid reasons to be upset with her husband. It's very frustrating.
