Mike knows strongly I feel about this: I truly believe the Brandon/Emily thing in seasons 4 and 5 was a total retcon of what came before and it was forced to reflect their off-screen relationship. The character change in Emily made zero sense and Brandon suddenly having romantic feelings for her also made no sense. It's as if the show cannot have Brandon JUST be friends with any female in the show except for Cindy, Brenda and Andrea.

As for the cheating aspect of season 8, it was such a dirty trick that the show pulled by bringing in some gold-digging secretary to make a move on her boss like they did with Emma and Brandon. It didn't feel fitting for the show at all. It even went beyond the dirty tricks that Val pulled.

Brandon sacrificing a 4 year relationship with Kelly, who had just been SHOT, for some cheap fling? I don't think so. Absolute garbage writing.

Gwen, I know the Emily and Brandon romance made no sense, I've said it many times but I'm a big fan of them although BK made a lot more sense to me.

Santa Knows HAS to be the worst episode of the entire show's run.

It was just a tacky excuse for Brandon to do something ~taboo~ and split him and Kelly up for no reason

(Maybe just so we'd hate him more and thus not miss Jason when he leaves )

It's a shame that Steve's dynamic with those two was completely underused and basically thrown away when they got rid of Hilary Swank.

In retrospect, he acted so mature with them and it was sweet. Maybe a little far-fetched and not believable for the tone of this show, but I did think they made a sweet family.

Oh wow Well, that just sucks even more for Hilary then.

I don't think anyone fought for her. I remember the actress saying how much she hated the filming experience and how she was treated at the end.

The introduction of Noah was when the show really jumped the shark. It was still watchable after Brenda had left, but it really went off the rails when Noah came along.

I know what you mean because they really rushed his intro into the group but I think Ray was such a repulsive character that even someone as bland as Noah seemed okay by comparison

If a character stays on the sidelines and manages to a) not beat up their love interest, and b) have the guts to realize on his own how to apologize for any wrongdoings, then he earns my respect. This was Noah in a nutshell.

In comparison to Ray, who a) beat up Donna, b) framed Ray and c) only dropped the charges once Brandon talked him into it. He was so weak-minded. I can deal with Noah being a slightly boring character, because he was still a decent guy overall and treated Donna well.

It's ironic that I DESPISE amnesia plots in TV shows (there's one in a Taiwanese show called Meteor Garden that completely destroyed the second season back in 2002) and the thing that immediately happened to Kelly in this season was amnesia.

Honestly though, I already knew season 8 would be terrible when they had Brandon and Kelly immediately clashing over him still being friends with Tracy in the first episode. Plus, the fact that he was keeping photos hidden of Tracy was just ridiculously bad writing. We knew in season 7 that he didn't think much of her as anything other than a colleague and that he wasn't heartbroken when their relationship didn't work out. So, that was such a contrived thing to put in for Kelly to get angry about.
