Season 4 Episode Discussion Thread

So season 4 comes out tomorrow.

Season 4, Episode 1: So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye
Original Air Date: 8 September 1993

After working for the summer at the Beverly Hills Beach Club with Brandon and Donna, Brenda leaves Beverly Hills to go to college in Minnesota and finds that her old friends now see her differently. Meanwhile, David and Donna seek out some affordable housing on the beach. As college approaches, Steve and Brandon rent a beach front house in Malibu and they get a surprise visit from Steve's former girlfriend Jill Fleming, which irks Celeste. Kelly returns from a two-month trip to Europe, without Dylan, who has been rejected acceptance into Berkeley. Also, Andrea frets with Gil Meyers over her deciding to stay in California to go to college.

Let's discuss season 4 in all its dramatic beauty.

Yeah, I'll have to refresh my memory a bit too.

But this episode reminds me of the Thomas Wolf quote"You can't go home again"

The whole eppi was great. I love that there was lots of Steve/Brando hang out/bonding time because they are my fave friendship of the whole show.

I hated seeing Bren go but I love her independence and how she's not afraid to be different/daring. I also eventually love her vulnerability that we shall see more of in future S4 eppis.

I'm glad Kel came back to Bev Hills to see Bren before Bren left and I love how David comes to her and asks her to help him find a place. I love how they depend on one another and how David, Kel and Donna are forming such a tight bond/becoming such a unit.

All the party scenes, and the party aftermath, are really fun to watch.

I love the Brandon/Brenda scenes from this eppi as well.

It's nice to see continuity between S3 and S4 and I like how the Andrea/Gil Meyers friendship gets wrapped up and Andrea's agonizing over not going to Yale is presented, it's a nice touch.

All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable episode.

That moment at the party is one of the sweetest. "Why, so you can watch me turn into a basketcase?" / "Yeah, that's it." Right on the cusp of humor and sentimentality.

Yeah, the "I just wish you were coming with me" line to Brandon is one I always remember.

One scene that I always grin big through but I never hear brought up is the one with Cindy, her mom, Brenda, and B's cousin in the car back in Minnesota. Cindy's mom keeps negating everything she says like only a mother can do, ... subtly and unofficially. "Yes, it is, mother. It's called global warming."

I know the scene where Brenda explains to her Minnesota friends that BH isn't full of shallow people was mocked on the DVD release, but I'm always like , because she is, in effect, defending the character of the show against naysayers.

I made caps, but they've all been posted a lot by now. They were Andrea visiting Gil, Dd/D/K apartment shopping/K telling of her break-up, and Brandon/Steve nodding to each other in the first PPit scene. I'll check later for other people's caps, lol.

Here's the scene I posted on the Bn/S thread:

EDIT: Damn. No, that clip was from "The Girl from New York City". I'm always mixing the first two episodes.

Lol, I really felt for Brenda in those scenes. I mean you don't want someone bugging you like that on a normal basis, much less when you're trying to adapt to a new (well old-new) environment!!

She had to say that twice.

Season 4 Episode Discussion: The Little Fish

Season 4, Episode 3: The Little Fish

Original Air Date: 22 September 1993

Brenda returns to Beverly Hills to find her bedroom taken over by Brandon and her parents angry that she dropped out. College registration is too much for Dylan who has a kindred spirit, so he and Brenda pair for a fishing trip to talk about their future. David and Donna try to audition for the DJ's on the California University's radio show, while Andrea tries to get in with the university's newspaper, The Condor. Meanwhile, Steve tries to get Brandon in on the fraternity life on the CU campus by pledging the Kappa Epsilon Gamma (K.E.G.) fraternity.

This episode pretty much set the tone for Dylan/Brenda's relationship for the rest of the season. Two people who obviously still have feelings for eachother but decide it's best to remain really close friends. I love how they were able to confide in eachother the best and it continued that way in future episodes.
