Yeah. I just remembered how Jennie tends to forget that Kelly did not end up with Brandon. She was SCHOCKED in that quiz with Tori, 14 years later, although at least spin off reminded her of that. And when spin off was filmed, she admitted she was clueless who Kelly ended up with, although it was only 8 years after the show had ended

It makes me feel vindicated knowing how much I resent the final two (or perhaps three) seasons and the fact that parts of it are erased from her memory pretty much confirms her low opinion of how the show ended.

Yeah. And it also confirms that in those last seasons she REALLY didn't give a damn and did not make much effort except for the paycheck, and shows that her heart was not in those S9-10 SLs at all. I mean, she apparently forgot not just the finale, but the whole last two years of the show. COME ON.

I can believe that the set must've been extremely awkward in the wake of Jason leaving. He was Jennie's partner and the remaining heart of the show after the parents left... It must have felt very wrong to even attempt to continue without him.

Honestly, I remember watching some of season 9 and thinking how it felt more like watching 'Days of Our Lives' than 90210. Luke's return did nothing to make me feel better, because it's too weird watching him without Jason as well.

Well, her remaining friends and partners were there. But I think she was way tired from the show.

Early days of season 5 were magic

I liked Brandon's line in that scene too: "I'm not Brenda and we're not in high school." The way he dismissed Kelly's perception of them being back in "the triangle" because they're older and more equipped to deal with mature feelings was so great.

And then their triangle turned worse, IMO, but ok, I don't feel like talking about triangle at all

I forgot he compared himself to Brenda. That's funny, because his position in that triangle was not like Brenda's (it became later). His position at the start of it was more similar to Kelly's in high school. S3, that is.

but what I didn't like was Brandon's constant attempts to circle around her questions about what he was doing with Emily when Kelly was caught in the fire. One of his more cowardly times.

The only part I liked was when Brandon and Dylan were being mutually reflective and miserable about her rejecting them both when they went home together on the bus in the season 5 finale. That was the most tolerable version of Dylan we ever got in their triangle.

Dylan complained that he misjudged Kelly so hard, and Brandon said something like "I have 4 years of engagement ring plans lined up to pay for" poor guy

Indeed. I also was not a fan of how she mentioned all the guys and who they cheated with, expect Dylan cheating on Brenda with her. Not even drunk Kelly can be completely honest and publicly admit a mistake. Or hypocrisy.

Ouch. I did not know that. So basically, he was paying even after he left Beverly Hills. Bummer.

Was it ever clarified if he got rid of payment earlier? I remember Kelly bought her ring back in S7, but I guess Brandon still had to pay for his.

That triangle was so over the top, with boys buying engagement rings and tickets for the trip around the world, Kelly getting so frustrated that she "had" to get into a cult so they would save her from it, Dylan contemplating joining the cult too, Dylan making a public scene to embarrass Kelly/Brandon at Donna's party, Kelly going to his house and claiming "NOW it's really over" after his offense, calling the woman he was with a glorified hooker (although she knew nothing about her), Brandon instantly cutting ties with Dylan after he offended them although he knew about his problems etc. Neither Brenda, Dylan nor Kelly did something so over the top during their triangle. S5 was so cheesy. It all felt so over the top.

I am sorry that they did not really let Kelly/Brandon have enough growth of their relationship on their own. They had to mention Dylan almost in their first scene together in S5. Come on. It was clear what the writers intended to do for the rest of the season.

Kelly/Dylan also never got rid of Brenda's shadow in S3-4, but it seems to me they had more autonomy from Brenda than Kelly/Brandon got from Dylan.

Nope

Just one of those story arcs that became less about the money and more about the legacy of the ring going from one place to the other. It literally became like that photo in The Parent Trap that gets passed around of the parents

I do think the writing suffered because they tried to keep the possibility of Kelly/Dylan open long after it was clearly done and dusted. Once they had Dylan brag about seeing her in a past life, I officially gave up taking any of it seriously.

Me too, Es. However, I kind of expected it too. What was ironic is that they mocked the Kelly/Steve relationship in the season 5 premiere and clearly had Kelly say "we'll always have high school", which is a BIZARRE semi-call back to Dylan saying "we'll always have Paris"

I think it's because Shannen was out of the picture, and the writers thought they had to keep relying on the same kind of triangle situations in order to keep the long-time viewers engaged.

I'm the same as you - I would have much preferred to see what Kelly and Brandon could have become in season 5 had the writers not relied on past obstacles such as Dylan and Emily, for crying out loud. Although I still think Emily's various appearances were due to Jason and Christine's off screen thing, but ah well.

Just like the ridiculousness of them arguing in season 7 about that fake scenario Val set up about Dylan wanting to "meet up with Kelly" and enticing Brandon into thinking it was proof she was still in love with Dylan. That's where the writing became a complete mockery of itself - when you're relying on characters who aren't even the show anymore to create fake drama!!

I question a lot of the time what the writers were thinking by reviving D/K - especially in the strange way they did with the whole past life scenario. All I can think is two reasons: 1) they wanted Luke to remain attached to a central female on the show by any means necessary post-Shannen, and 2) they convinced themselves that viewers are morons who want to keep seeing recycled versions of toxic relationships and they don't have time for actual grown-up scenarios of a relationship that could actually work... For example, that beautiful scene on the beach where Brandon and Kelly talked about Jim and Cindy moving to Hong Kong and the potential of their own future as a married couple

It was such a quiet, moving scene of two actors who were clearly great friends in real life and a RARE situation where the writers/director allowed the chemistry to shine through rather than have a repetitive script destroy any kind of romantic tension.
