I honestly did not get why the girl her age would want to live in the same place as her father, no matter how close they were.
And why would he move to the other continent in his age? IDK, it all seemed like a bad writing to me. __________________

It did all seem very rushed, I concur.
Interestingly, they have Steve's mother cruelly dump him (without actually dumping him) just before her final episode. It seems that they did that as an excuse to push Clare emotionally further away from Steve and hold him responsible for upsetting her father. __________________

Clare is an intelligent woman. It would’ve been realistic to have her move abroad to either further her education or take a job offer.

I mean, to be fair, Clare definitely did have an Electra complex. So the exit they gave her was true to her history and their relationship.
Though I do think, by that point, Arnold would’ve worked harder to persuade her to begin her own life. |
