Season 5 was definitely the 'it's the mid-1990s and I'm trying to look older' style. I can see why she cut it because of the College/mature thing but yeah it was much thinner, too brassy blonde and her eyebrows went so weird at that point!

I hated how Kelly's friend teased Donna for being "boring" because she couldn't think of any family problems.

I was always under impression that Donna actually refused to open up. Andrea, Brenda, Kelly and even Amanda revealed much more about themselves. It's impossible she had nothing to say. We saw quite soon afterwards in April Is the Cruelest Month that she was aware of her learning problem, and that her parents were not very supportive about it, so she simply considered herself stupid. They underestimated her. I think she told Brenda something like "My mom (or dad) says I should find a rich husband." At this point she was just too insecure and embarassed to open up to the others, I would say. And Amanda was picking precisely at that, embarassing her even more.

Good point, I do think part of Donna's fear was being accused of being a snob because everyone knew how strict Felice was and saw Donna as a little princess.

Maybe she was also hiding that she felt stupid.

In S1-3 Dr. Martin also did not seem particularly nice to her. I think the image of a warm, sweet dad was more developed from S5 onwards. I think in S1 she hinted he told her she was stupid, and in S3 he was also not particularly supportive about her graduation problem.
