I really didn't like Dylan during that time. To me, he put all that responsibility of telling Brenda on Kelly.

Well he did not, he did not care if Kelly would tell Brenda. He was against it altogether. As a matter of fact, in Castles in the Sand he wanted to tell Brenda (allegedly) and Kelly did not. If Kelly really wanted to tell Brenda, she would not need Dylan for that. She was more responsible than he was, but they were both less responsible than Brenda.

You're right about that. But I was actually referring to after Dylan had chose Kelly. To me, Dylan kept hinting Kelly to break the news to Brenda. I remember him saying something like "That was your chance to tell her"

There's a scene in a school hallway when he just leaves Kelly with Brenda, like "now you can tell her". But he did not put pressure on her to tell it to Brenda. Just let her know he did not want to, and had she wanted, she could have done that on her own. She basically pressured him with not having sex until they tell Brenda together.

That was the scene I was referring to...and in a way, I thought it was Dylan telling Kelly what to do....but I see your point.

Well Dylan did not tell Kelly what to do. He told her what she could have done had she wanted to, but he let her know she's alone in it. He thought they should not tell Brenda at all - supposedly not to hurt her more, but actually out of his own convenience. Kelly pretty much blackmailed him with sex into telling it to Brenda together.

Now thinking of it - why didn't Kelly tell Brenda on her own, had she really wanted to? not just while Dylan was out of town or before his choice, but also after he chose her and after he made clear he did not want to take part it confession? Was she afraid to face Brenda alone?

I didn't know she blackmailed him with no sex. I do think that she was afraid to tell Brenda by herself. I know I would be. Also, if Kelly told her by herself, Brenda might not believe her.

Also if things get nasty and physical, Dylan can separate them.

Nah, I might have exaggerated that. But I think she did let him know she would not be able to relax and have guiltless sex with him until they tell Brenda. Together.


Hm, it never occurred to me that she might have thought Brenda would not believe her. But that's possible.

I think that she knew Brenda was verbally much stronger than her, did not beat around the bushes as Dylan said, and had every right to be angry. Therefore Kelly needed Dylan there because together they could have defended themselves more easily - or try to do so. Two against one. (I don't mean physical fight ) Also, when they were together to share the guilt, her own part must have looked smaller to her.

Also, Kelly and Dylan said they wanted an honest new start with Brenda so they could continue being friends and blah blah. I am sure that was what they told themselves. They wanted things to be convenient for them.

I agree. I wish they didn't drag out Dylan's decision. It was just too long for me. It might be because I had a big hunch he was going to choose Kelly.
