Watching the reruns, sometimes I feel like Valerie makes trouble for Kelly and Brandon because she was jealous and wanted to be with Brandon. The episode when Valerie and Kelly are sick shows Valerie did want to be with Brandon. She held a grudge for a long time. Yes, I saw the scene when Valerie and Brandon talked about laughing when they were going to sleep together. Maybe, Valerie laughed because Brandon did, so she didn't want to feel embarrassed. Other times, I think it's because she doesn't like Kelly. She didn't make trouble for Susan and Brandon except the one time at Thanksgiving when she saw Kelly and Brandon kissing. She seemed to get along well with Tracy

It's all of the above. Val doesn't like Kelly for a lot of reasons but I think the first time Val didn't like Kelly was because she's dating Brandon. Also Kelly was the one who Val thought but into her business when Kelly told Steve that Val was two timing her with Dylan.

Actually it did start when Valerie hated seeing Brandon dating Kelly in 5x01 but she didn't start any trouble - I think it was actually Kelly who started this dual and it escalated from there.

Kelly couldn't help herself but step in...Kelly was either butting in for Steve's sake or she got mad for seeing Val and Dylan hooking up in the closet area.

I watched early episodes too and Kelly told Andrea that Brandon felt like she was a sister to him too in the early years. Brandon saying Valerie was like a sister him doesn't really mean much
