They are the most iconic couple of this show - there is no ifs or buts even if other fans of another couple don't like the idea but fact is fact. Brenda and Dylan are the No.1 couple on the show.

Luke's acting improved a lot by S3. But then when he came back in S9, it was not good at all. __________________

Well, at that point, the series was starting to lose steam anyway. The material wasn't on par with the earlier seasons when the series was still hot and fresh. The best seasons of the show were obviously the Brenda years.

They tried to replicate the magic of Dylan/Brenda with Dylan/Val and Dylan/Gina, but there's no substitute for the real thing. They tried their very best, but in the end, they couldn't do it.

Hmmm. I'd say that with Dylan/Val and Dylan/Gina they actually tried to retroactively undermine Dylan/Brenda, given that these girls were sort of Brenda substitutes, and they were second choice to Kelly.
