Episode #75: “Security Briefs” Debut: SUNDAY, SEPT. 13 (10:30-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) The guys step up their security following a suspicious break-in. Sure, everyone hearts Zac Efron. What's not to love? He's cute, charming, talented and he actually seems, dare we say...humble? And Jeremy Piven seems to think so too. E! News caught up with Entourage's most A-type star, Ari Gold, at the premiere of The Hangover and here's what he has to say about Zac's upcoming guest spot... "He actually is a total sweetheart, and he was awesome, and now he’s going to become a client of Ari Gold," Jeremy told E! An exact airdate hasn't been confirmed yet for his guest role, but Jeremy said, "It will be in kind of the middle. But it’ll be nice. It’ll be a step up in a major way. He comes on as himself, like David Schwimmer does. A lot of people come on as themselves and they are very self-deprecating and taking one for the team. And they don’t look great in it. And they’ve been amazing. People have been incredible. It’s been an amazing year." As we previously scooped, Zac filmed his scenes for the episode at the Beverly Hills Niketown store on Tuesday morning. What do you think of Zac popping up on Entourage? Zac Efron to appear on HBO's 'Entourage' HBO has confirmed that Zac Efron will play himself in an episode of Entourage when it returns July 12 for a sixth season. (The news was first reported by E! Online.) Aaron Sorkin will also make a cameo this season, as first revealed on EW.com back in April.

Zac Efron has signed to star in an untitled thriller for Mandate Pictures, which is being written by Leslie Dixon. The plot is being kept under wraps but it is described as "a sexy thriller." The deal continues the evolution of Efron from the teen heartthrob of the "High School Musical" franchise to a more mature leading man, and also sees him stepping into producing shoes. He will act as executive producer with Mandate's Nathan Kahane. Frequent Mandate collaborator Greg Shapiro of Kingsgate Films ("The Hurt Locker"), Jason Barrett, and Dixon will produce. Nicole Brown will oversee the project for Mandate. Efron and Dixon, a respected veteran writer whose credits include 1999's "The Thomas Crown Affair and "Freaky Friday," first worked together on "Hairspray." No director is on board. Efron, repped by CAA and Alchemy Entertainment, last starred in New Line's teen comedy "17 Again," which grossed almost $63 million domestically. Dixon is repped by CAA.

Dixon's penning the script; the logline's staying under wraps. Project reteams the scribe with Efron two years after she wrote and he starred in "Hairspray." Efron and Mandate's Nathan Kahane will exec produce. The thesp has worked previously with Barrett, who exec produced "17 Again." Efron ankled Paramount's remake of "Footloose" in March and is set to reteam with "17 Again" director Burr Steers on an adaptation of novel "The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud" at Universal. Shapiro's credits include "The Hurt Locker" and the "Harold and Kumar" franchise.

Zac Efron is negotiating to re-team with "17 Again" director Burr Steers on an adaptation of the novel "The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud." The film will likely be the next for Efron, who just ankled Paramount's "Footloose" remake. Former "Good Morning America" exec producer Ben Sherwood wrote the book, about a caretaker at a cemetery who manages to have weekly meetings with a younger brother whose accidental death he feels was his fault. Marc Platt is producing, and while Efron's deal is still being negotiated, Steers is set and has already begun polishing a script originally written by Craig Pearce, with James Schamus and Lewis Colick also turning in drafts. Production will begin in July. The Efron-Steers collaboration "17 Again" will be released by New Line/Warner Bros. on April 17. Paramount is meeting other actors to topline the Kenny Ortega-directed "Footloose," which the studio still expects will be on its 2010 release schedule. A script rewrite for "Footloose" was turned in by Susannah Grant, and the studio is firming up music plans. Four songs from the original film will be used, and six new tunes will be added, from various artists. The film will not be a burst-into-song musical, though the heroine in the new film will be a singer.

Now it looks like the rumors are true and that the plum role is going to Zac Efron, the 21-year-old pretty-boy star who is hoping the action role will help him dance away from youth-pop vehicles and whip up a career-redefining franchise in the Indiana Jones mode. (Dwayne Johnson is circling the project as well and would be the brawny version of pilot and man-of-action Race Bannon.) The choice of Efron is going to stir up fans of the classic Quest series because, well, Jonny was just an 11-year-old in the prime-time cartoons of the 1960s that so deftly pulled on Milton Canniff, Ian Fleming and Rudyard Kipling for their spirit of exotic adventure. I myself think it's a surprising but interesting choice, and I'm one of the people in town who think Efron (like Justin Timberlake) has a big future ahead of him and that people will look back on his frothy Disney duty as just the early steps in the choreography of his career. Making Jonny older will change the property, to be sure, but maybe it will make it richer as well.

What about Hairspray 2? Zac Efron: Hairspray 2, yeah, I read something about that, I think it's an idea at this point, but once again I haven't really been in very many discussions about it, so I don't know if it's going to happen. It would be fun, it would be great."

"We just got an outline and some ideas from John Waters, and now we're going out to writers," director Adam Shankman tells EW exclusively. The story will follow Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky) and her pals as they navigate the "next era of music," the late '60s. "That period was superpolitical," Shankman adds, "it was a time of serious change." No kidding: According to the filmmaker, heartthrob Link (Zac Efron) will channel his inner Austin Powers and become steeped in the British Invasion. "We're trying to track, in a comedic way, the historical elements."

Aug 18 2009 02:55 PM ET Robert Rave's 'Spin': A 'Devil Wears Prada' for straight guys -- or just a film vehicle for Zac Efron? E! is reporting that Zac Efron — the possibly engaged star of High School Musical and 17 Again (or not, depending on what report you want to believe) — is interested in starring in a movie adaptation of Robert Rave’s just-published debut novel, Spin. The book seems to be a “distaff” version of the recent chick lit sub-genre about an innocent ingenue (preferably from the Midwest) who moves to Manhattan, goes to work for a shrewish boss in Big Media, and comes close to losing her soul in the process. The twist this time is that the ingenue is a guy, what the jacket calls “a corn-fed young man from the Midwest who stumbles into New York without a clue, a contact, or a proper wardrobe.” Though he’s (presumably) straight, his name is even gender-ambiguous: Taylor Green. (By the way, the shrewish boss, a PR diva named Jennie Weinstein, is a likely stand-in for Rave’s former employer, the controversial publicist and Gawker.com punching bag Lizzie Grubman.) I suppose if you’re going to make what seems for all the world like a chick flick but just happens to star a guy, Zac Efron is your ideal leading man. Remember that Devil Wears Prada star Anne Hathaway cut her teeth on Disney fare like the Princess Diaries movies. Like many recent books in the Devil Wears Prada vein, Spin isn’t just counting on a movie deal to spark reader interest. The book’s publisher, St. Martin’s, is also promoting the novel with a trailer. This one is a little more ambitious than most — it features four young actors playing out a scene from the book — though it pales in comparison to last year’s polished McG-directed clips for Celebutantes, another St. Martin’s novel, that one written by Amanda Goldberg (daughter of film producer Leonard Goldberg) and Ruthanna Khaligi Hopper (daughter of actor Dennis Hopper). The Celebutantes trailers set a perhaps impossibly high bar for the genre. They were spiffy enough to make me yearn for a TV series based on the book, if not drive me to the read the book itself. But this Spin trailer? I’m not sure it stirs my interest in either the book or a film that would squeeze Efron into a pair of pink Manolos.
