Patrick Wilson Appreciation Thread #1-- Because he's mastered the art of versatility!

www.the-trades.com has this to say about him:

Quote:

The level of an actor’s versatility is perhaps the most telling indicator of his talent. And if there’s one thing Patrick Wilson has mastered, it’s the art of versatility...If there’s one thing that stands out about Wilson, it is the passion and enthusiasm with which he speaks about his profession. Perhaps the reason he is able to articulate his opinions about his career with such eloquence is because he has an intricate understanding of the acting process. Thoughtful and intelligent, Patrick Wilson is an actor whose performances define what it means to be a great actor.
He's worked with Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, and Emma Thompson in "Angels in America."

He rubbed elbows with Billy Bob Thornton and Dennis Quaid in "The Alamo."

He's about to start a film called "The Good Shepherd" with DeNiro and Matt Damon.

His upcoming film "Hard Candy" was the controversial talk of Sundance.

He's received four Drama Desk, two Tony, Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, at the ripe of his early 30's.

He stripped for a whole year for money, on stage...in The Full Monty on Broadway.

He sings, dances, acts, and knows how to swordfight.

And oh yeah, he looks like this:

Yay, a Patrick Wilson thread! It's about time! :pinkie: Thanks for starting the thread, Optimistic Cynic.

There are so many things to admire about Patrick, but chief among them for me are his incredible versatility as an actor and his dedication to the craft.

I know that mainstream audiences are mostly familiar with Patrick through the Phantom of the Opera movie. I liked him in that film, he did so well even though Raoul, as written, is a rather bland character.

I'm much more excited about his newer films and projects. Hard Candy (in which Patrick's character seduces a young girl, played by Ellen Page) is getting a lot of attention and good reviews. I loved what the director David Slade said about him because it shows just how hard Patrick works:

As the same time he noted Wilson for the depths through which he was willing to go to make the role work. At various times he passed out, took a beating for three days straight ("We kicked the ******* out of him too," said Slade.) and had to deal with the general distastefulness and difficulty of the role.
"I'm thankful that Patrick would star in this role," said Slade. "There were a lot of people interested in this role and a lot of people who backed out."

"He literally had the crap kicked out of him for three days in a row," emphasized the director. And he noted that Wilson kept going through it all. Slade asked him if he needed to take a break, but Wilson just kept pushing, and in the end, Slade said that made it possible to finish the movie on time.

I read recently that Patrick will star in Little Children with Kate Winslet and Jennifer Connelly. I love Kate Winslet, so I'm just ecstatic!

I have very little interested in watching Hard Candy except that Patrick is in it. I've loved him since POTO, so I'm pretty new to him.

Little Children is an unusual movie, but it's worth a watch.

Hard Candy is pretty disturbing so I can see why.

Somehow I missed Little Children last Oscar season. It's on my DVD list though.

ROCKSTAR 11-02-2007 05:58 PM

Yup. I've been told so many things about it that it's hard to get in the mood.

I missed Little Children during Oscar season, too. I watched it on DVD a few months ago. Patrick played a hot dad, and boy, was he HOT. :D
