The actor, who starred in 'Lazarus,' the Broadway adaptation of Bowie's film 'The Man Who Fell to Earth,' accepted the award on behalf of the late singer.
At the 2017 Brit Awards on Wednesday night, David Bowie received the honor of best male solo artist for his 2016 album, Blackstar.

Accepting the award on behalf of the late singer was actor Michael C. Hall. Hall starred on Broadway last year in the musical Lazarus, based on Bowie's 1976 film The Man Who Fell to Earth, and has performed tributes to Bowie in the past, including a performance at the 2016 Mercury Prize ceremony.

"If David Bowie could be here tonight, he probably wouldn't be here," Hall said while accepting the award.

Accepting the award on Bowie's behalf, and behalf of the singer's family, Hall vowed to "accept this testament to a man beholden to nothing but his own imagination."

The actor praised the late musical icon's work, saying, "His daring artistic vitality soothes, sears and astounds us. His kindness, generosity and enthusiasm inspire me to be a better man."

Bowie's Blackstar was won album of the year. Bowie's son, Duncan Jones, accepted the night's highest honor on behalf of his father.
