Keira Knightley #8 - "I'm the Kick-Ass Guinevere! I'm a Warrior Smurf!"
** Banner by Switch. Keira Knightley was born March 22nd 1985 in Teddington London, UK. Her father, Will Knightley, is an actor, and her mother, Sharman MacDonald, is an actress-turned-playwright who has written the plays "I Used to Scream and Shout" and "The Winter's Tale". She has an older brother. Keira, who is dyslexic as is her brother, credits this as helping her to become an actress. At six she decided "that she wanted to be an actress- not at some distant point in the future, but right away. An unattainable ambition- or so it seemed. But Keira's mother, already concerend with her daughter's lack of incentive at school, made a deal with her. 'All right,' Keira was told. 'If you come to me every day during summer holidays with a book in your hand and a smile on your face, then at the end of summer holidays, I'll get you an agent.' "Quite possibly her mother never expected she would deliver but Keira perseverd with her reading and slowly but surely began conquering her dyslexia." [Quote by Jamie Portman, from Canwest News Service, Canada. Full article can be found here]. When she was seven she had her first professional role in "Royal Celebration", a TV movie. At 9 she was in "A Village Affair". Other roles followed, including a bit part in "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace". The problem with that role was that as the decoy to Natalie Portman's Queen Padme Amidala, the studios wished to fool the audience into thinking that Portman had played both the decoy and the Queen when in reality, she hadn't. Keira is to the left. Next came a role in "Oliver Twist", a UK adaption of Charles Dickens classic story. Afterwards she was cast as the lead in Disney's "The Princess of Thieves", a TV movie about Robin Hood's daughter. This was followed by "The Hole", a British Pyschological Thriller, also starring Thora Birch. Next came the short film "Deflation", then a role in the UK [and now worldwide] smash hit "Bend It Like Beckham". This great film is about an Indian girl, Jesminder "Jess" Bhamra, [Parminder K. Nagra], who wishes to play football [or soccer] much to the chagrin of her orthodox Sikh parents. Keira plays Juliette "Jules" Paxton who notices the talent that Jess has and recruits her to play for a woman's football team and ultimately becomes her best friend. Another couple of roles followed, before she was casted as Lara Antipova [ne韇uishar] in a TV mini series remake of the Academy Award winning film "Doctor Zhivago". Although "Bend It Like Beckham" is probably her breakout role, "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" is introducing her to wider audiences, especially in North America and was the number one film the weekend after it was released. In just six days it made $78,130,538. The film centres around a ship which has been cursed for ten years. They kidnapp Elizabeth Swann [Keira] and it is up to Captain Jack Sparrow [Johnny Depp] and Will Turner [Orlando Bloom] to rescue her. Adventure on the high seas ensures! After "Pirates" Keira came a British movie called "Love Actually", an 'ensemble comedy tells ten separate; but intertwining, stories of love in London [with a small portion set in France], leading up to a big climax on Christmas Eve.' Set for release on July 7 (two days short of a year after "Pirates of the Caribbean" "King Arthur", a movie that demystifies the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Keira is going to be playing Guinevere, the Queen of Camelot. Keira has finished filming "The Jacket" [with Adrien Brody] and will also be starring in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequel [which reports indicate will be filmed in early 2005]. She is currently filming the film version of "Pride and Prejuice" in which she plays Elizabeth Bennet. She will also star in "Domino" as the title character. She was to star in "Tulip Fever" [with Jude Law and Jim Broadbent] but that was cancelled. She has also been linked to Jurassic Park 5 and an as yet untitled film with George Clooney, but this still only speculation. Inside Move: Knightley over knights 'Arthur' marketers make thesp star of actioner's ads By CATHY DUNKLEY, MARC GRASER The movie's called "King Arthur," but Disney is banking on Guinevere to help open the pic. The Mouse House has made the character, played by Keira Knightley as a strong warrior queen, the star of its campaign for the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced actioner, as a way to lure female moviegoers, a demo that helped "Troy" and "Gladiator" at the B.O. With the R-rated actioner originally positioned as a "Gladiator"-style epic about the "true story" of King Arthur, early footage pushed the pic's swordplay and armies fighting violent battles. Marketing ramp-up for the film, which opens July 7, has evolved into a different and broader approach. Knightley's now front and center in the posters and dominates much of the new spots that now appear on television. Film's love story, lush landscapes and origins of the legend of King Arthur and the Round Table are also emphasized in the trailers in theaters. Knightley will also grace the covers of Vanity Fair, Entertainment Weekly and Premiere magazine. Realizing that its stars, including Clive Owen, who plays King Arthur, Ioan Gruffudd as Lancelot and Stephen Dillane as Merlin, are not household names, Disney also unveiled four 15-second spots this week devoted to each of the pic's central characters, who are more recognizable. The studio has already spent $3 million on fold-out poster inserts in Los Angeles and New York newspapers. Disney did the same last summer to promote "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl." Disney needs "King Arthur" to conquer the B.O. After a string of big-budget disappointments this year with "The Alamo," "Hidalgo" and "Home on the Range," the studio is eager for a hit. However, the spotlight on Knightley's Guinevere is a little ironic. In the original script, the character doesn't make her entrance until page 55. Onscreen, she appears 40 minutes into the film after seven other major characters have been introduced. __________________

Someting that Keira said on Leno last night (that wasn't in the sticky about her background):
She -- Keira -- Is he reason her mother is a successful playright. After first having her bother, her father wasn't to keen on having another child just yet, so he told Keria's mother that if she sold a script and it was successful, they could then have another child. Up until that point, I guess, she hadn't been successful, but like all artists, she was motivated by more than money this time around and when the play did sell... They had Keira shortly after Also... I am glad King Arthur is going to be rated R. While most summer, action-adventure movies usually go the PG-13 route to get the kids... This one is taking a risk because the story itself DEMANDS it be told with the brutality and intensity of that era and I for one am glad that Disney isn't caving into "teen marketing"... And, it gives Keira more credibility in that once others in the biz she is in a mainstream, R-Rated film that they won't be limited in casting choices because they are afraid she won't do or doesn't like R-Rated material. |

I hope everyone likes the title! Any suggestions for future ones?
I've updated her biography at the end of it to talk about future projects! I've also added a new Pirates pic since the link to the other one wasn't working! I've added those who wished to be added to the list! If others want to be added, please let me know! Why did Keira have to hide her half of her pretty face? That haircut does not suit her. abby You finally got it? Took you long enough! Thanks for the article! It is ironic that they are focusing on Guinevere but I guess it cause Keira is the most recognized cast member. I didn't know she doesn't appear until forty minutes in! I thought she had more screentime then that... I'm still excited to see it of course though Shetan Thanks for the pic! The Daywalker I know what you mean! I would love to have a billboard of the film in my room to! UnsilentMajorty I should put how Keira came to be in the bio aye? I'm not sure if King Arthur deserves to be rated "R" I need to see the film first n e r b l e Thanks for the pics! __________________

Lara - I actually PMed you some title suggestions. Did you read it? I think Keira will outshine the rest of the cast. Let's wait and see. I want a Guinevere poster. Check your PM inbox.
