I'm going to have to rewatch this episode cause I watched it when I was slightly drunk so not sure if I got it all.

I hated seeing Cas lie to them so much especially when he could see how much Dean was defending him in the beginning.
The one thing I do remember from the episode that was crazy was that Cas was the one that pulled Sam from hell! Wow I honestly didn't see that coming at all.

I dunno, these past few episodes aren't much appealing to me than that of the last few seasons. I hated that Cas lied to them but you couldn't just hate him for lying as he's also in a dilemma. it's so wrong not to talk to them about it but at the same time he was trying to protect them.

Though, I have a lot of questions. So Castiel pulled Sam out of hell. What's his reason? Out of pride? I don't fully understand why he did it. I have the same question as Sam's.

How long did it last, Sam not having any soul? And how long had been Castiel working alongside Crowley? Did Cas even find a way to get Sam's soul back? Or he was already caught up in the moment hence he forgot that he brought an incomplete Sam.

I am not a fan of Castiel, if he is on I'll watch him but I don't miss him when he isn't there, but a similar question *did Cas know Sam was souless" was posted on the imdb website and the answer was "it was made clear that Castiel didn't know Sam was soulless. He said because of over confidence he thought he could raise Sam even though it would be nearly impossible. "I hadn't truly raised Sam - not all of him".

I wasn't looking forward to this episode but there was enough of Sam and Dean to keep me happy.

I notice there aren't many comments on this episode presumanly because Jared wasn't on much, this is true but the little screen time he had, he made an impact, just his facial expression and tears in his eyes when he asked "Did you bring me back soul-less, on purpose", was enough to get his feelings across.

I did not like it when Sam said he would die for Castiel. Sure he likes Cas but I think the writers took it too far. (Of course this was said before Cas told him "I am the one who raised you from perdition")
If the writers had taken any time to show us any Sam/Castiel friendship I may have been able to form a different opinion. I can't think of any occasion when it has just been the two of them (correct me if I'm wrong)

On your question Gay as to why Cas raised Sam from hell I think he did it because he didn't want Sam to suffer. He doesn't want the boys dead, he brought back Dean and then Sam and when Crowley said he wanted the boys dead Cas said he would just bring them back again. I just don't think he can bear to have them dead.

I'm really interested to know how long Crowley and Cas had been working together as well. I'm assuming it was ever since the world didn't end. While I hate it, you're right that Cas is in a tough position but I just hate that he lied to them.

Jules- I don't think Cas knew that Sam didn't have a soul. He saw that he was different and he mentioned how he should have known when Sam walked away from Dean without a word but he didn't see it then. I feel that if Cas really did know right then that he would have tried to do something.
I agree about Jared's facial expressions, they broke my heart like always.
And as for Sam saying he would die for Cas that didn't bother me at all. Yes, Sam and Cas were never close like Dean and Cas are and they don't really get one on one time but that doesn't change the fact that they have worked side by side for a long time and Cas has saved him time and time again. Sam would die for him because he views him as family, a hunter among them just like he would die for Bobby or Dean. Sam is always willing to sacrifice himself for the good of someone else so that is why it made sense to me for him to say that. Just because we don't see one on one time between them doesn't mean that there isn't a bond there.

Castiel had gained Sam's trust and respect through Dean. We have to remember that he thinks highly of Dean hence anyone who Dean puts on a pedestal, he also gains Sam's respect.
