House 5x17 "The Social Contract" (Monday 9th March 2009)

The Social Contract

House and the team take on the case of Nick, a book editor who loses his inhibitions. The team realizes Nick has frontal lobe inhibition, which causes him to speak his mind having no control over what he says and making him just like House. Meanwhile, House suspects Wilson and Taub are keeping something from him.

good show love seeing From Shield "Dutch" as the say anything patient .sorry not as good as the guy with the brain tumor, who broke into laughter no mater what was said, and spewed way worse things to his wife (Grey's Anatomy 2008 )

Nice Wilson House interaction, I see a pattern with House possibly a slow change in his ways .

THe funny part had me on the floor was the [patient] remarks to Cuttie and Thirteen great stuff , then house in the dark watching priceless, just priceless !!

I quite enjoyed this eppy

I'm in shock that the writers actually remember Wilson's brother , so glad that they finally went back to it and great H/W scenes

Loved the Chase/House scene as well , see that scene was only a couple of minutes, but it pwned all the new team scenes put together

Quite liked the case as well...

Wow. I actually liked the new episode, a feeling I barely had this season.
I think the POW was very interesting especially in comparison with House and his own social life. It almost seemed like he wanted to bond with Wilson. I'm also glad Wilson got finally his own storyline again other than mourning about Amber, it was time. I can't wait to hear more about his brother.

The scene with POW and Cuddy made me laugh so hard especially when Cuddy went searching for House. So knows him so well. And her smile in the elevator. Awwz.

Overall an episode I will definitely watch again cause I think it set the direction for the rest of the season.

I don't like Doris Egan's episodes and this one was no exception. Still better than Birthmarks, but weaker than Unfaithful and The Softer Side - which, in my opinion, were the best episodes we got this year.

My review won't be long this time around, I'm a bit tired.

First of all I'd like to mention that episodes written by Doris EGan always have an 'out of place' like character to me. In my opinion they are always very Wilson-centric and short on medicine. Her episodes are never favourites nor least liked episodes of mine, but they are episodes I rarely watch twice for some reason. Maybe they lack refreshing elements, because I can't really describe how i feel about the episodes.

It's not that I mind the Wilson/House centric scenes per se. They were wonderful. I have always been one of those who wanted the writers to finally pick up on the 'long lost brother' storyline. I think it was introduced to us quite nicely and I like the character depth given to Wilson by explaining how he came to develop this general kindness towards everyone.

There's two scenes I really enjoyed:

of course the Cuddy scene. Of course this patient provided the most awesome opportunity for House to prank Cuddy. I loved how this played out -starting at the choice of words and ending at Foreman's most unfomfortable expression Loved how Cuddy knew it was a prank to embarrass her and how she knew this was House's screwd-up way of complementing her. That smirk on Cuddy's face when the elevator doos closed on her was priceless.

The second scene was of course the one in the locker room with Chase. I think Chase was glad that House opened up to him about why he wanted to actually help the patient and then Chase asking no more about it, more than satisfied with House's explanation. It was well-played.

What I did not like was the lack of interaction in the differential. House really only approved to some tests, there was no arguing, no memorable metaphors, no white-board. I thought it was a bit boring - no clinic patient either to help bring the case along.

House seemed too pre-occupied with getting behind Wilson's secret, which is maybe why the eppy did not please me as much - maybe I'm suffering from a sudden Hilson overdose. Hilson is like good chocolate - it needs to be savored in small but perfect bits and pieces.

I liked the episode a lot, actually

I was reading a comment somewhere else about this episode, and I agree with it, that the "Hilson" centered episodes are good because they always reveal something more about their friendship to us, it always brings something new to it that hadn't been shown before - therefore it shows progression, for both characters. I think this is very true

I think it's interesting that we kind of saw the roles reversed this time. I mean, of course both House and Wilson love analyzing what the other does/says, but usually it's Wilson who's there for House in the moments of pain, who tries to help him move forward and overcome whatever he's going through. This time, it was House who offered to be there for him. He wanted to know what Wilson was doing not to mock it, not to make sarcastic comments about it, but because he wanted to actually help. And that was beautiful to see - I don't it's ooc that he offered too make company, it's different, but very good different, imo

The only thing I didn't like about the episode was that House wasn't doing anything medically, he barely had any participation in anything the team was doing with the patient, he didn't even say much about anything - he spent most of the episode just chasing Wilson and his big secret. Good for the House/Wilson storyline (which, again, I liked very much) but bad in general, in the medical aspect, I mean. It even seemed kind of nonsense to me when he reached his realization in the end, cause he hadn't even been around most of the time
Another thing that disappointed me is that they didn't really use the fact that the guy was so much like House. House didn't even interact with the jerk version of the patient I thought that could have been so interesting, and funny actually, since it would be like talking to a mirror, hehe. But eh, they decided not to go with that so, whatever. It's just something that I would have liked to see

I think it was an excellent episode. Almost like the good old days. The episode had balance, which I had missed in most of the season 5 episodes. It was funny, touching and smart. It didn't feel too overstuffed with too many story lines and it had no big melodrama.

The patient managed to be relevant and sympathetic. The Social contract theme was interesting and I felt sorry for him and his family. And they kept the parallel with House from being too obvious and overdone.

Chase had screentime! Significant screentime! With House! He gave him an opportunity to learn new skills! It has been age since the last House/Chase scene.

No Cameron, but at least they made sure to mention her.

The short House/Cuddy scene was witty, something I've missed from a lot of their scenes lately.

Loved Kutner and Taub obsessing over his nose and failing at rocketball

Minimal Thirteen and I actually liked her scene with Foreman. It felt far more realistic than their other scenes lately.

I’ve missed House/Wilson since Wilson came back in the beginning of season 5. It was really great to see them together again. Aww. They had so much depth. Wilson's explanation for why their friendship works was perfect.

They did a good job with Wilson’s brother. I love backstory and continuity!

And most importantly House was House.
