I've been reading DH all over again because of Fantastic Beasts. There's so much I missed with the Dumbledore history when he and Grindlewald were friends.

Yeah, well at least 4 anyway.
What is your theory on Ariana Dumbledore? Do you think she had an obscural inside her or was she just a victim of abuse (from the muggle gang attack) who never recovered? __________________

Before seeing Fantastic Beasts I would've said she never recovered from the Muggle attack. But now with JK giving us more information, I think the abuse she sustained at Muggle hands added to her already existing problem of having an Obscurial inside of her.

She was a completely normal young witch before the attack according to Albus's brother. She was spied upon in her backyard performing magic by the muggle boys. But since she was too young to understand how she did it. So under duress by the boys she couldn't do it again. And that resulted in the attack. Which prevented her from going to Hogwarts because she was too traumatized and refused to do any magic from then on. Very similar sounding to Credence. He repressed it like Ariana. So does repression create obscurals? Or do these forces pray on the repressed because the know they are weak?
Anyway I know Jo won't clarify this because no doubt it has spoiling relevance but the connection is just so curious. __________________

I viewed Obscurials as the first option - as a force that is created within the wizard when he/she is afraid to do magic for whatever reason, and not as a force/entity that already existed and finds bodies of wizards, who are afraid to do magic for whatever reason, to inhabit.
