5x06 "I Believe the Children are our Future" Episode Discussion

I Believe the Children are our Future
Thursday October 15th 2009
The CW

Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) investigate a series of odd murders that strangely resemble fairytales and urban legends. The brothers track down an 11-year-old boy named Jesse (guest star Gattlin Griffith) and realize that whatever Jesse believes is coming true. Castiel (Misha Collins) tells Sam and Dean that Jesse is a serious threat and needs to be eliminated. Charles Beeson directed the episode written by Andrew Dabb & Daniel Loflin.

If the kid is that much of a threat, i hope they do the right thing.

This brings back good memories. I wonder if this will be the same case as Nancy the Virgin in Jus In Bello. You know the plan that will vaporize every demon in a one mile radius and eventually save all townspeople if they cut out Nancy's heart. I'm curious on how are they going to deal with it this time. :)

It will be interesting.

the winchester way is don't kill unless it's a monster right now and definitely don't kill innocent people.. they showed that during the rugaru episode just recently!

One of these days the boys will have to learn their lesson, I love that they save people that they put that first, but if they've learned nothing in the past couple years is that sometimes you have to strike first, and while it's unfortunate this is just a little kid, he could become something much more dangerous. Lilith was in a childs form, and if they could have killed her then before she became a seal, everything would be a lot different. Granted Dean might still be in hell. :( but still I doubt the world will be ending. (and no this isn't a lead to should Sam have been taken out ages ago or not, because Sam is different, this kid might not be)

wicked games 10-14-2009 09:15 AM

But Lilith was different she was Lilith! a full fledged evil demon possesing a little kid, this kid as far as we know isn't. He's a kid who might be very dangerous in the future, I think that is the big difference between the two

This is a very interesting discussion. In my personal opinion, I completely understand if they need to find proof if the child would end up being dangerous or not, ( if it was me I would look until there was no other way), but if they child is proven to be dangerous and can harm other people...he needs to be eliminated. :( its sad, but its about saving other innocents. Of course bringing the whole "should they or should they have not killed Sam along time ago" is quite complicated and head-ache worthy.

This is all spectulation but i believe they will end up keeping the boy alive thanks to their good hearts and end up regretting it later like Jus in Bello. But that is just spectulation.

This is what I think will happen too. :( and I don't want them to start offing kids any more then the next guy, but at this point in the game the stakes are a lot higher, if this kid really is that big of a risk, then maybe it's the right thing to do.

We cannot take out the guys' humanity and their loyalty and respect to human. I think it's a given; that's why we love them. Their decision to not kill Nancy in Jus in Bello is one proof, so as the contemplation whether to kill Jack the Rugaru or Madison in Heart. I think ultimately they will all weigh things first before striking. If there's another way to stop it other than killing the person, they'd look into that. If there's no other way, no matter how hard it would be to take, I think they'll do it. It's for a greater good.
