Christian Music Discussion/Recommendation #1

Christian Music Discussion/Recommendation thread #1

So I asked one of the mods if there was a Christian music discussion board, and she said no, so I thought I'd start one. Thanks so much for allowing me too!

There are some really good Christian bands out there. Let's discuss/share 'em!

I went to see Casting Crowns on their The Alter & the Door tour in Greensboro, NC the other week. They were amazing. Their openers were Leeland and & John Waller. We were 40 minutes late, so we didnt get to see the openers, but I still like Leeland a lot...just thought I'd share...

Hey! Glad you got this started, I'll add it to the board guide.

Also, I've heard a lot about Casting Crowns lately from a few friends...The only song I've heard is Every Man, but it's pretty good.

Finally there's a thread for this! For the past 2 years all I've been listening to is Christian music!

Some favorite artists:
-Casting Crowns
-Mercy Me
-Todd Agnew
-Superchick
-Sanctus Real
-Big Daddy Weave
-Audio Adrenaline
-Amy Grant
-Jars of Clay
-Matt Kearney
-Phil Wickham

There's just so many!

I had the privilage of going to see Casting Crowns back in September when they were in Texas. It was awesome! Strange that they've only been around 3 years- it seems much longer. My favorite song is "Altar and the Door" from there latest album but in all it's hard to choose a favorite since they are all so amazing.

I'll have to write that down and check it out on my computer from home. Is it a slower song?

Which other bands do you listen to?

I also like Barlow Girl a lot. And Mercy Me is awesome too. I LOVE Chris Tomlin as well...I've only heard one song by Audio Adrenaline, but I liked it.

It's all good! FF & I havent been getting along either, lately!

I dont have any of the cds except The Alter & the Door. The majority of what I have are just songs that my friends have given me. I didnt know that Stacie Orrico was considered Christian until a few weeks ago... I love Avalon as well. I've never heard of Todd Agnew or Sanctus Real...def. gonna check 'em out! My friend LOVES Jeremy Camp, as do I.

Might I suggest something. Go to klove.com There you can listen to the radio station online. It's a bunch of great Christian music.

I live in a dorm with no radio. And then the town I live in doesn't have the station so thanks to the website, I'm able to listen to it over the net.

Yeah, Stacci Oricco is Christian. So is Switchfoot. (On KLOVE they've even played music by Daughtry!)

No problem, FF being a pain in the ass this morning. It did the same thing to me.

I looooove Switchfoot, probably one of my favorite bands of all time. Especially after hearing the Beautiful Letdown album.

I'm not big on MercyMe. But I do love "I Can Only Imagine", and "Homesick" from them.

oooo, let's see. Some of my fav artists:
Bethany Dillon
Starfield
Hillsong
Shane and Shane
Matt Redman
Lincoln Brewster
Christ Tomlin

Recommendation:
Flyleaf: They're not really labeled as a Christian band, but all of the members are Christian and their lyrics have that aspect. They're rock and there is a bit of screaming, but not too much. Female lead singer too!! She's amazing!

She is amazing. I their song "All Around Me". I'll def. look into their other stuff. I have Bethany Dillon's self titled cd...it's really good. My 2 fave songs on there are "Beautiful" and "Voice Calling Out".

Supergirl: Is your name Kara? Word of God Speak by Mercy Me is a beautiful song as well. I honestly, that I know of, have only heard it, I Can Only Imagine and Homesick.

Roswell: My best friend's dad was talking about KLOVE and I had no idea what he was talking about. Thank you so much for sharing that! I'm so stoked now! I live in a small town too, and no where around here do they play any contemporary on the stations. Mainly old Southern Gospel...I live in NC, so yeah.

I saw a skit performed to Lifehouse's Everything, which is prolly one of my favourite songs of all time. And I've heard I Turn to You and Blessed the Broken Road on the station around my home. I knew Switchfoot was a Christian band..cross-over, isnt that what they call it? I'm so excited this thread has taken off!

Me too. I was always curious as to why there wasn't a topic for Christian music. And now I'm glad there is because it's a huge deal in my life.

Funny story: Back when I didn't believe in God, my mom was always listening to KLOVE and I would beg her to change the station because I could not stand Christian music. Now I'm the one who can never change stations. When I'm in my hometown I've always got to have KLOVE on the radio. When in my dorm, always listening to KLOVE.

Listening to "Prodigal" by Casting Crowns and it's one of my many favorites from them. Here are the lyrics:

Living on my own, thinking for myself
Castles in the sand, temporary wealth
Walls are falling down, storms are closing in
Tears have filled my eyes, here I am again

Chorus:
And I've held out as long as I can
Now I'm letting go and holding out my hand
Daddy, here I am again, will you take me back tonight
I went and made the world my friend, and it left me high and dry
I dragged Your name back through the mud
That You first found me in
Not worthy to be called Your son
Is this to be my end?
Daddy, here I am
Here I am again

Curse this morning sun, drags me in to one more day
Of reaping what I've sown, of living with my shame
Welcome to my world, and the life that I have made
Where one day you're a prince, the next day your a slave

Those words just speak to the depths of my soul; it's incredible!

It's always been in my life, but now more so than ever. I dont always lead the best Christian life possible but I try to (not as hard as I should). My best friend helps some and I'm more involved in church than I ever have been.

Those words are beautiful. Their words in all their songs are so powerful. One of my favourite songs off their Alter & the Door cd is "The Word is Alive". Those are so powerful words too!

Here's the chorus:

With eyes wide open, all would see

The Word is alive
And it cuts like a sword through the darkness
With a message of life to the hopeless and afraid
Breathing life into all who believe
The Word is alive
And the world and its glories will fade
But His truth, it will not pass away
It remains yesterday and forever the same
The Word is alive

At their concert, if you left there and were not touched in some way shape or form, something's def. wrong with you!
