The Libertines - Thread #1: What became of the likely lads

I'm currently into The Libertines. I've known some of their music for quite a while now, but I'm so not informed. Basically a total Libertines newbie.

What does "Babyshambles" mean? And "The Books of Albion"? Do they all actually speak german (due to them singing in that language) or just one or two of them speaks it?
What is happening with the band? The recent thing I've read at the official site is that one member is ill, and another one is working at a solo project. :(

Anyhow, hopefully more of you like The Libtertines, too.

:)

Finally a Libertines thread. I could have started one myself but I never got around to it. I would have to say The Libertines are my most favourite band.
<----- Look at my avatar! :)

Babyshambles is Pete Dohertys band. At first it was a side project but when he left the Libertines, he put most of his time into that.
The future of the band at the moment is still up in the air. :(
Peter still isn't back in the band and is still doing his thing with Babyshambles. Carl has just been offered a solo deal and John has his band Yeti.
And Pete has been 'clean' for a think approx 3 weeks now.
Anyways, either someone else can tell you everything else you need to know, or I'll do it when I get back from work tonight. :)

Thanks Shell_belle! I'm glad that Pete is clean, but it's sad about the possible future of such a great band. :(

I love your avatar.

Your welcome. :)

Here's a site that has a whole heap of info on them for you http://libertines.twinkling-star.com/.

Ack, only two people on a Libertines thread?! Pfft.

Whenever I fall in love with a band I'm always paranoid about a break-up...I always feel queasy when those 'trouble within ::insertbandnamehere::' rumours begin. Unfortunately The Libertines can't seem to get over their "issues" to keep on truckin' (...it's early). I do hope that Pete stays/gets clean (I can't keep track anymore), he's such a talented musician.

I started a thread for them a long time ago but I guess its lost waaaay back on another page by now.

So...what does everybody think of their second album? It had such great reviews but I like the first one a lot better. "The Libertines" is good but "Up the Bracket" is awesome.

Alli I agree. Their first album cannot be replaced or topped so far. But still they maneged to produce a steady second one. :)

LUSH I also hope that they get over it. I don't want them to break up. :(

I've been getting more and more into The Libertines lately. They quite literally rock.
I think it's a real shame about Pete, he is so talented, i just hope he dosn't cack it all up. And i really hope The Libertines can get past their stuff and make more awesome music.

Its really awesome, because we get free CDs and stuff because Jonh is my brothers best friends cousin:D

The Up The Bracket is definately better, I have to agree.
I fell in love with the band after I heard it and they have been one of my favourite ever since and that's saying alot.
Ever since the second one was released I literally haven't stopped listening to it. Probably because we know what a few of the songs are about. :(
Which is a pity since I have bought some pretty good albums lately and I haven't really had a chance to listen to any of them because I'm obssesed the album.

Has anyone heard that apparently at a Babyshambles gig the other night, Pete was smoking crack! I just hope it isn't true, he's done so well lately. :(
He really needs to get away from the Babyshambles crowd, they're not good for him and he'll never get better being around them.
He has also had a reunion with his dad as well. They haven't spoken for years since his dad disowned him because of his drug problems.
I'm hoping that because of that reunion, we'll soon have a Pete/Carl reunion. Which I guess is what all Libertines fans are hoping for.

barelylegal 02-28-2005 09:15 AM

Oh my! Wait.. I'm clueless.. what exactly are the second albums songs about? :look: Pete doing crack again? :( And his father disowning him.. that's no good.

He definitely needs to change crouds. He's so talented and I don't want him to waste that by doing drugs.

Shell_belle 03-01-2005 01:18 AM

Some of the songs on the second album are about the destruction of the relationship between Pete/Carl and Pete's drug problems.
Just listen to the lyrics of Can't Stand Me Now, What Became of the Likely Lads and The Saga. They're really personal really. It shows how close Pete and Carl once were. :(

I'm currently going through the rest of the lyrics on the album trying to figure out what the rest of the songs are about. I like to find out what most songs from different bands are about, I find it interesting.

barelylegal 03-03-2005 08:38 AM

Hmm, I'll have to pay more attention to the meaning of lyrics. I do believe it is interesting to find out what the artist ment by writing those lyrics.. what the sense of each line is. :)
