Gosling Finds A Real Girl
Ryan in a twisted rom com
Source: Variety

Not content with inheriting a bar from Tom Waits this week (albeit only in new movie The Good Heart – read that story here), Ryan Gosling has gone and found himself another film to star in.

And this one couldn’t be more different. In Lars And The Real Girl, he’ll play a geeky loner who finds a beautiful Real Girl doll on the ‘net. Yes, we really are talking about a romantic comedy in which a fully-grown man falls in love with one of those creepy “life-like” sex toys.

Real Girl springs from the mind of Nancy Oliver, who served on the writing staff of Six Feet Under, so you know we can expect a nicely twisted tale. Craig Gillespie will be calling the shots later this year.

Remember how, when you were young, there would be a certain stuffed animal there to comfort you in good times and in bad? It would sit, propped up on your pillow, anxiously awaiting your arrival. Then, at some point before your teen years, you grew out of the whole stuffed animal thing and moved onto kissing, dating and fighting with your parents. Well, what if the whole "growing out of the stuffed animal"phase never happened? Ryan Gosling is now attached to star in Lars and the Real Girl, which will tell the story of a lonely man and his bizarre relationship with a doll he finds on the internet. Yikes -- someone get this guy a friend.

Gosling finds Real love online

Actor Ryan Gosling has reportedly agreed to star in the upcoming film 'Lars And The Real Girl', in which he will play a lonesome geek who finds love with a Real Girl doll on the internet.

Somehow, the film is still classified as a romantic comedy, despite the fact that the object of our fully-grown central character's desire is in fact a "life-like" sex toy.

The script for the film has been penned by Nancy Oliver, who worked on the hit TV series 'Six Feet Under'.

According to Empire, filmmaker Craig Gillespie is set to helm the production and will be calling the shots later this year.

Mortimer is a Real Girl

Actress Emily Mortimer has taken on what may well be her quirkiest role in Craig Gillespie's upcoming comedy 'Lars And The Real Girl'.

According to Production Weekly, Mortimer will star opposite the previously cast Ryan Gosling in the comedy, which follows the latter as a lonely, delusional man who forms a relationship with a realistic sex doll.

Unsurprisingly, the darkly comedic script has been penned by 'Six Feet Under' scribe Nancy Oliver, with Gillespie keen to begin shooting in Toronto this October

Ryan Gosling will receive additional more lady company for his upcoming offbeat indie from MGM.

Patricia Clarkson for Lars and the Real Girl
According to Variety, MGM and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment have picked up Patricia Clarkson to star opposite Gosling and Emily Mortimer in the upcoming indie Lars and the Real Girl.

Craig Gillespie is directing from a script by Nancy Oliver.

Pic is the story of a timid man whose life changes dramatically when an Internet friend comes to visit. The beautiful, religious missionary is in fact an inanimate replica of a woman.

Sidney Kimmel, John Cameron and Sarah Aubrey will produce.

It apparently started filming, making it is official enough to get its own thread I figured.

:)

heaven85 10-18-2006 09:47 PM

Thanks for staring the thread girl. :D I was going to but then I saw you had one. :D

Nice banner. :D

-Bianca- 10-19-2006 09:10 PM

I'm curious as to how they're going to depict the doll.

heaven85 10-20-2006 09:36 AM

I so am as well. Your banner gives a more creepy feel of the movie. I'm so curious to see how it will all turn out. But the idea is quite creepy but of course I will see it for Ryan. :D

-Bianca- 10-22-2006 02:53 AM

I just used the first picture of a doll I found when I googled.

It could be funny and enjoyable, if done correctly... it's from one of the brains behind SFU. That show knew how to straddle the line very well.

heaven85 10-22-2006 05:44 PM

Really Bianca?

But yep if done well it could be awesome. I'm hoping that it turns out well. :D

-Bianca- 11-24-2006 11:34 AM

Shooting ends soon, end of this month, apparently.

Bye-bye mustache? Por favor, Ryan?

heaven85 11-24-2006 09:00 PM

I really hope the mustache is gone by then. :D

-Bianca- 11-25-2006 09:52 PM

He better not keep it once filming is over, if he doesn't need it for further work.

Or, um, else. :nono:

heaven85 11-27-2006 12:00 AM

Ooh what are you going to do if he doesn't?

 I don't see him needing that mustache anymore either. :D

-Bianca- 11-27-2006 08:38 PM

Pout and whine.

-Bianca- 11-27-2006 08:49 PM

It won't let me edit.

Since the death of his parents at a young age, Lars (Gosling) has locked himself out of the world. Extremely shy, he never lets anyone too close. One day, a co-worker shows Lars a website selling "Real Girls", anatomically correct, life-size dolls. A week later, Lars attends a family dinner with his new doll and introduces her as Bianca, his new fiancée. The family brings Lars to see a therapist but they are urged not to disrupt his disillusion. Word spreads and soon the entire town greets Bianca as a real person. She starts volunteering at the hospital and even gets elected to the local school board. Eventually, both Lars and his community find they are transformed by the bizarre reality of a doll and her surprising effect on their lives. A high-concept comedy from Craig Gillespie, director of the upcoming Mr. Woodcock.

Sure it won't Bianca.

Um... that sounds a little freaky with the doll. Wow the doll's name is Bianca. Any relationship to you?

-Bianca- 11-28-2006 04:42 PM

I'm finally the love interest for Ryan and yet, I have to be an anatomically correct adult doll.

Sigh.
