Set to start shooting in April, the film is based on the real-life events of 2000 when an explosion on board caused the Kursk submarine to sink in the Barents Sea, prompting a desperate struggle to save those on board.

Written by Robert Rodal, who was nominated for an Oscar for Saving Private Ryan, Kursk is based on the novel A Time To Die by Robert Moore.

The project is being produced by Luxembourg’s VIA EST with Belgium’s Belga Productions with EuropaCorp.

EuropaCorp has international rights to the film which it is starting to talk to buyers about at this week’s European Film Market.

I think if Rachel was part of the cast, they would have announced it? Because she would attract buyers at Berlinale, unless her casting is coming later this week?

Deadline confirms what I suspected and confirms Rachel was actually in talks for it:

Firth plays David Russell, a British naval commander who goes against Russia’s warnings so he can try to save the men on the Kursk.

I actually think it's more likely Rachel passed on it due to scheduling conflicts.

Filming was suppose to start in March and it got postponed to April and now Rachel has Game Night in April. Plus, it got delayed before. Not sure how long Rachel has been attached but they were suppose to start filming last year during the Summer.

Yes, and Kursk is filming in Europe whereas Game Night is filming in the US (most likely) which also makes it difficult to work out a schedule to do both at the same time or do both back to back

True, and as much as I wanted her to do Kursk it would have probably demanded doing dialect training which she didn't have the time to do so between Disobedience and Game Night.

I prefer that she does 2 movies where she was able to fully prepare for then 3 movies where she was only able to prepare for in between takes or something. I think Rachel prides herself on being prepared and doing good research and filming movies back-to-back doesn't leave much room to do so.

Since I'm a Matthias Schoenaerts fan I have been following the "Kursk" news and it seems they are filming in a studio in Belgium for most part. I think this could explain why Rachel did not sign up for it, because she might be reluctant to spend months in Europe to film.

Plus, it would also be impossible to combine filming Game Night and Kursk because of the distance between them
