Exactly. I think Maya looks at Shawn and, knowing that he had a similar childhood to her, she can be comforted by the fact that things will turn out okay for her too.

Just from her general behaviour, she was a little quiter & more inhibited than usual. Like she didn't want to do or say the wrong thing

^ I did notice that she was a little quieter in her moment with him, but it didn't occur to me that she may have been trying not to say the wrong thing. Why do you think she felt that way? It didn't seem like she was so worried about saying the wrong thing when they first met. So what changed between Home for the Holidays and Master Plan? What do you think? If there is an actual answer, then I would love to get the answer/clarification. =)

She didn't want to like him in HftH at all, he didn't like Riley, so she didn't like him. As the ep went on, she resisted it the whole way as they started to bond, so her attitude was completely different. In Master Plan, it was obvious at that point that she cared a hell of a lot more about what he thought of her & that she wanted to keep him in her life. Plus, when she was ranting to Riley about how her mother drives men away, it was pretty obvious that she was terrified that that's what would happen with Shawn, so I think she was trying to be on her best behavior around him in that ep.

^ That makes sense. And I remember one of the last scenes of Home for the Holidays where Shawn invited Riley and the rest of the family to join him on his assignment and Riley brought up the fact that she didn't go anywhere without Maya...and how that comment turned into Shawn extending the invitation to Maya as well. The two of them spending more time together must have made Maya warm up to him even more, so that could have also explained why Maya was happy to see Shawn in Master Plan. And I didn't think about how Maya tried her best to make sure Shawn stuck around. I think she found a kindred spirit in Shawn, and she didn't want to lose that connection.

She definitely did, I think that Shawn had something that Maya had been waiting to come along for a while - even if she didn't want to admit it

^ I agree. Maya had heard so much about Shawn before she officially met him. She probably had one idea of the person that Shawn was, but once she started spending more and more time with him, she realized that he was nothing like she thought he was.

I think she probably thought that nothing else about Shawn mattered if he didn't like Riley, so I'm sure she got him completely wrong before she actually met him

^ Exactly. Shawn making Riley feel bad was Shawn's biggest strike. He could have been the greatest guy in the world, but it didn't matter to Maya. When she met him and she found out that he wasn't who she thought he was, she let herself get to know him.

Yeah, she started to drop her guard a little - but they were so compatible, that as soon as she lowered her guard a little, she started to like him really quickly

^ I agree. When two people are so similar (like Shawn and Maya), it's impossible to deny their connection. They were able to go toe-to-toe with each other, and it was such a great jolt to see these two similar forces interacting.
