Yeah, they are around the same age, I'm sure there's loads of things that they have in common that they just haven't found yet

^ Exactly. I think one of the first things they could have done was to tell each other about the experiences that they had before they found each other. I know they had very different upbringings, but I'm sure it would have connected them a little if they had heard about the experiences that shaped them.

That would be great, as it would also help them to understand each other a lot too

^ Exactly. The best way for them to connect was to spend some time together and to let things happen in their time. I'm sure they got there eventually.

Me too, I think they had been doing just fine for the last two years, so it was weird to see them get all worried about it in that ep.

^ It did seem out of left field, didn't it? Maybe they thought that they hadn't connected the way they should have, so they tried to force/overdo it before they ran out of time and therefore lost their chance to be brothers.

I can't remember for sure, but maybe they got jealous in that ep because Cory & Eric had so many childhood memories together, that they didn't have so they felt like they had to overcompensate. That's the only way I can really explain it

^ Ah. I just remember the scene shown in the left side of this gif set where they decided to start acting like real brothers. I'll check it out, see if I can find the answer.


ETA: I got it! Eric found Cory cleaning out the garage with Shawn and Topanga. When Eric told Cory that he thought it would have been fun to do it together, Cory said that it wasn't a big deal, that he didn't want him to waste a Saturday. Eric then brought up the fact that Cory didn't mind asking Shawn to waste a Saturday, to which Cory replied that Shawn loved trash. Eric then said, "Okay, so let me try to understand this. You decided on your own to go through our stuff involving your wife and your best friend, who incidentally has a brother of his own to do this kind of stuff with, but you didn't call me." Cut to that scene in the student union. Shawn told Jack that Eric's comment got him thinking, and then we got Shawn and Jack deciding to start acting like real brothers. I think there may have been a touch of jealousy from Jack and Shawn that they didn't have the childhood memories that Eric and Cory had, so they probably did overcompensate.

Oh, so that was what started it all! I guess it did make Shawn start thinking that he & Jack should be how Cory & Eric are, but they can't create a childhood that they didn't have together unfortunately

^ That's true. They were never going to have the childhood memories that Cory and Eric had, but it wasn't too late to build memories as adults. Judging by how hard they both pushed to make that connection, they both wanted to find something that tied them as brothers.

Yeah, they definitely had the will to build that relationship, so I'm sure that they got there

^ I'd like to think they did. Even though it wasn't revealed/confirmed on Girl Meets World, I think they made sure to stay in touch as much as they could so that they could be up-to-date on each other's lives.

^ It wouldn't make sense to me if they lost touch. They tried so hard to form a connection and actually be brothers. Why would they dismiss all of that time and effort they put in if they weren't going to stay in each other's lives?
