The story that I have come up with is the following >> Chet, Jack's mom and Jack were a family for a few years until Chet got into the drink and he became a different person, so Jack's mom and Jack went out on their own and Chet moved on to Shawn's mom after a few years. They got married and they had Shawn. Somehow things don't quite match up for me. I don't think Chet cut all ties with Jack, I think he wasn't given a choice....it was hinted that Chet was abusive, I guess when Jack's mom left she wanted to keep Jack away from him.....which you can't really blame her for

^ They must have more in common than going ice-skating during Christmas-time. I'm sure that they found those other traditions that they both wanted to do together while they were ice-skating in season five.
