Alright. So what do you think Lucas would have discovered about himself and her/them if he had stopped and really thought about what caused him to stop and stare at Maya like that?

I think that something big was gonna have to happen to get Lucas to really think about it, but if he did, I think he would have definitely realized that he had feelings for Maya

^ I can see that happening. I think, once Lucas realizes that he has feelings for Maya, he will need to convince her that his feelings are true.

Lucas would really have to work to get her to open up again. She had a lot of experience with being hurt.

Yeah, Maya took a really big chance the first time with Lucas, only for him to date Riley... all her insecurities about if Lucas really liked her back would be x100

^ I agree. I can see him recognizing that he kind of needs to make it up to her, which would prompt him to pull out all the stops to show her that he wants to be with her.

I love it! I'm imagining that Lucas was going to find a way to resolve the conflict between Maya and Riley if Eric's plan hadn't worked.

I don't think Lucas had a clue what he was doing, I don't think he could have fixed things on his own in that ep

& she definitely did take his breath away there, no one else ever had that effect on him

I've been thinking about a few things about the Ski Lodge and I'm positive that both Maya and Lucas knew Lucas had no choice but to choose Riley no matter what they wanted. Maybe I'm just reading too much into things but this is what I got:

Lucas: You know what, she's right. No matter what we decide, this is our world and it's only the right decision if we stay friends.

Maya: We can control that, right? (Maya and Lucas share a look)

They both knew that Riley couldn't handle Lucas and Maya getting together, after all, she just told them a few minutes ago that they'd destroy each other (even though it's her that took over the Huckleberry Bond fantasy, so she is the one that decided that Lucas and Maya could never work out. She took control and decided how it ended instead of just watching how it would play out). Riley not being able to handle it would destroy the whole friend group and they both knew it.

There's also the part where the group plus Evan is together and talking about what is needed to make a relationship. Lucas excuses himself and says that he has to go and kick a tree. People say that he does that because he was jealous of Riley and Evan talking... I have differing point of view, he's angry because it is hitting him more and more that he doesn't get a say in the end; he has to choose Riley, while all he really wants is to be with Maya.

Maya (to Lucas): We all know you chose somebody. We all know what's the right choice. And we know it's the only choice that you could possibly make.

They both knew there was no other way it could possibly end without a huge implosion of the friend group...but also it would destroy Maya's whole world. Maya sees/believes that she would not just be losing her friends, she'd also be losing her family (Riley, Topanga, Cory and Auggie).

And then there is:

Maya: Okay, Huckleberry, if you care about me... here's what you do. Go find Riley... tell her you love her.

Lucas would do anything for Maya, so he did what she asked and went to Riley... but even though Maya told him to tell Riley he loved her, he couldn't do it.

I'm convinced that a season 5 would have fixed the mess that was made of everything

That sounds more likely. I guess we can assume that he would have found some way to help get them on the right path.
