I wonder why Jack's mother threw Shawn's letters away without showing them to him. Why didn't she want him to know that he had reached out to him?

That's a good question, I don't think that was ever explained - if I were Jack, I'd definitely want to have a conversation with her about that!

^ I imagine Jack did talk to his mother after he found out that she had thrown out the letters that Shawn had sent him. I don't think there was a good explanation for her actions though, so he must have been upset with her for some time.

I think Shawn and Jack spent some time talking after Shawn found out that Jack hadn't gotten his letters. Maybe Shawn told Jack what he wrote to him...that is, if he remembered.

^ Oh, that's a good point. When Jack found out that he hadn't gotten Shawn's letters, he just assumed that his mother threw them out. I hope, when Jack talked to his mother, she told him that she saved the letters for him, because she knew that he was going to find out about them one day and he was going to want to read them. I love thinking about Jack reading Shawn's letters and then talking to him about them.

^ I imagine it would have been. I remember that Shawn told Cory that he was 10-years-old when he sent Jack his first letter, and that he must have sent him 15 letters. I wonder how old Shawn was before he came to the conclusion that he never got a single thing back, because Jack didn't want to have anything to do with him.

It's hard to tell, because I can see both scenarios where Shawn sent the letters over a short amount of time, or him sending them over years. Either way, he much have been so devastated when he gave up

^ That's true. I will always wonder how long Shawn waited to get a reply back from Jack before he kind of gave up. I wish TPTB had made that part of the scene clear.

I imagine that Shawn started out so hopeful that he was going to be able to connect with Jack, but he lost a little bit of hope with every letter that he sent that didn't get a reply back.

^ I think so too. It was the perfect opportunity to have the guys tell each other stories about the experiences that they didn't get to have together when they weren't in each other's lives, and to get to know the people they were when they re-connected as young adults.

Aw, I love that! Even though that photo is from nine years ago, I think they still looked good.
